Harassed by cops...

Plus, what's the big deal about police asking to look under the hood? If you have nothing to hide then there is no problem. I don't get it. I don't think it is he who has the serious problem.

If he (the cop) doesn't have probable cause, and I don't think (JMO) that being pulled over for speeding is probable cause, then he doesn't need to see under the hood. To me, that's just one step closer to, "sir, I need to enter your house to look for anything suspicious I want to find!" and to hell with the search warrant. "What, you don't want me to??" "Hmm, if you've got nothing to hide, it shouldn't be a problem, should it!" In two words, B*** S***!! Now, I know there's a difference between your house and your car but they're still both personal property and if he doesn't have probably cause, it's none of his business as to what's in my car and I don't own him any explanations as to why I don't want him poking around.
Just because you don't want someone (police or otherwise) poking around under the hood, in the trunk, etc., doesn't mean you're guilty of anything and they aren't supposed to infer that you are just because you don't want them too.
Drive Safe,

I just got pulled over for doing 55 in a 30. Of course I wll fight it. The speeding laws in this country are absolute b.s and are just money pits for the police. If the govenment really cared they would institute a better licence training procedure. Now any drunken imbecile can get behind the wheel.
I often go 90-110 on the wide open highways around here. I consider this speed safe because of my skill as a driver.
BTW the cop was nice enough when he stopped me - you have to know how to act when stopped ie hands on the wheel, good attitude.

Uh i hope you arent serious. What's next? Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Usually the more power a specific agency has the more ability they have to corrupt that power.
Sorry but i dont want big brother watching me or anyone else for that matter. If you don't know what i'm talking about then go read George Orwell's "1984"

in the USA it isnt a good idea to get out of the car is it, cause they might shoot u.
i have been told to get out of the car and greet the police officer as the door creates a barrier which is seen as being defensive.
of course i live in a more civilised part o the world where people dont get shot up all the time by crazy morons toting guns

In my opinion, the CHP should be pulling over the many SUVs that drive that speed instead of the cars that are capable of doing it safely.

There is no excuse for that cop's attitude and language. It was clearly meant to inflame the situation. These guys are supposed to be professionals, people! I expect them to be courteous even if they're slapping the cuffs on and hauling my ass to jail! IMHO, most, if not all, cops have authority issues. It's part of their psyche that makes them want to be cops in the first place.
In 35 years of driving I have found only one exception to this observation. I've had 3 speeding tickets in my life and 1 for going too slow. Going too slow was the first one and I got it when I was 17 driving 65 in the fast lane of the Nimitz Fwy in CA. I was naive enough at the time to think "do the speed limit" when I saw the cop in the rearview. After the fifth car pulled right of me and passed, the cop decided to pull me over. I imagine that, at the time, there were quite a few drivers behind me applauding! LOL. The CHP officer politely informed me, in no uncertain terms, that the posted speed limit in CA is a guideline. That really, the speed limit is "whatever is reasonable and prudent for the prevailing road and traffic conditions" as he put it. He gave me the ticket to "reinforce" the lesson. It worked. I always keep that in mind when driving on the highway. It keeps me, and those around me on the road, a little more safe & sane and a lot less agitated. That being said, I have found that most cops adhere to that definition only when it suits them.
