I am sure that there are one or two on the planet that are cool..... I just havent found them yet. Of course refering to the police of America... not just California. I understand that it is a crappy job, fine find one that isnt.... but I cant handle the "greater than tho" attitude that they seem to have about questions or disagreements to their opinions. I have no record, I pay my taxes, I steal no kids... then why do I feel like a criminal when around these guys??

A police officer cannot immediately identify the driving ability of a vehicle passing them. They can identify speed, and make/model. To name but one virtue of the SUV, it generally has poorer stopping ability than a small car. To clarify my bias, I've found that usually SUVs are driven by POOR drivers, and one of many mistakes they make is improper following distance.

I agree with cshama, if the authorities REALLY cared about safety on the roads, the license requirements should be GREATLY tightened up! Here in Virginia, even if you cannot read, you can have someone read the test to you!! I am serious!

I mean, most people have trouble making a decision just walking thru a mall. Driving is a series of split-second decisions, it's no wonder that there are so many accidents and insurance rates are outrageous...

Towing your car for going 25 miles over? I haven't heard that before. I think since he said you were "racing" as in a speed contest, he could've towed your car. But since you weren't racing anyone, were timing yourself, or against a clock, there's no way his "racing" bullshit would've held up in court.

I've been pulled over before and asked what i had under the hood, but never asked to open it. I dont know what i would have done. Probably held out for a lawyer, or refused to get out of the car, even if they towed it. I meen, if i was pulled over for 90 in a 55 you just know your getting a ticket anyway.
The last time i let a cop search my car they wrecked my custom stero. and dont think for a minute they paid for it.
Cops are asshole, all of them. There are no nice ones. We have some serious problems in this country with the justice system. Dont get me wrong, i love my country. But to deny this is just ignorance! (IMO)
Good luck friend, i say you fight it, one way or the other. Dont let them walk on you.

If you really feel you were harrassed by this officer you should make a complaint. Since it appears that this was in CA more then likely the entire stop is on video that can be reviewed by his supervisor. Keep in mind that all your comments will also be on the tape. Most officers will stay well within the law knowing everything they do is on video. My brother is a cop and I have friends who are cops. Perhaps what you should do is set up a ride along and find out first hand how things go from their perspective. It might be eye opening for you. One of the great things about video is how many people don't realize they were taped. They go into the station to make a complaint. In my brothers department they make them sign a complaint statement under penalty of perjury. Most after watching the tape of their stop end up begging not to get a felony conviction on their record for perjury. Once they see the tape they know they are done if the police officer in question decides to pursue it in court. I have watched some of these tapes. They can be truly eye opening. They do work both ways. They expose bad officers and the protect the good ones. Sign a statement of what happened in the stop and ask to have your tape reviewed. Since I am sure you were polite during the stop and truthful about what you posted you can't lose!
