I hope you went to court for this and told the judge exactly what he said. I got out of a ticket because the cop was unprofessional.

 

Back in the '70s I was a long haired hippy freak driving my 914 home from work and was 1 car behind a stopped school bus with it's flashing lights. I saw the car in front of me pass the bus and I moved up behind the bus. I saw the kids in the back of the bus waving me on to pass. I stayed there for a while and decided there must be something wrong with the bus so I passed it. At the last minute I saw the driver's hand come out for me to stop, but it was too late. and I continued. Unbeknownst to me, a police car was further behind me and he turned his lights on and pulled me over. I thought to myself "I'm in for it now. My first ticket". However, I explained everything to the officer and he did admit that he saw the kids waving me on and let me go. He was nice to me and so was I to him. I'm just thankful no kid was crossing in front of me when I passed.

 

everyone says that about the cops in their area.

I just learned this in school yesterday, dont ask why i wasnt sleeping in Am. Government.... anyways, a cop only needs propable cause too search your car, he does not need a search warrent. What he is going to find under the hood that might be illegal, i find that a little bit strange? If you were not speeding you might be able to fight it in court but i dont think you have a case. Just one more reason why i hate cops, thats the reason why im getting a S2K, got into tooooo much trouble in my Z28. I have to slow down. Good luck.

I like law and have done alot of research regarding getting out of exhaust tickets and other complete BS waste of time things the cops like to stick us for.

I don't believe speeding is probable cause that your car contains illegal modifications under your hood. Even if your car is modified from the outside that still doesn't show that you'll have ILLEGAL modifications done to your car. Modifications, probably, illegal modifications, well who knows? I think street racing or speed contests would justify it, but not speeding.

If they had probable cause they wouldn't need your permission to search the car. That's why they ask an threaten you until you cave in. If they just searched and found something they would lose in court because it's not likely that the judge would agree that he had probable cause.

Oh well. You can fight it until the end because you're right or just open your damn hood.

 

You and people like you are the reason the Patriot Act was passed. Now people can be detained, revoked of their writ of habeus corpus, sent to a mililitary court, shot and killed - all without ever even seeing a judge mind you.

 

I'm sorry that many of you guys seem to feel that way, but you need to remeber that in the grand scale of things that we're actually ready and willing to be there when you need.

There are many reasons that cops write tickets and for some thats their sole assignment. Its simple: More Traffic Tickets= Less Traffic Accidents that cause death... In that particular instance was the cop out of line YES but now if you think about it next time you drive your going to be more weary of your speed and the way you drive (hopefully drive in a more safe manner with due regards for public safety). In CA and especially in LA there has recently been a large increase in Traffic related deaths and therefore the larger amount of time is place to enforce the traffic laws to reverse that trend. Though it may seem like a minor violation in the big picture the system is placed to save lives.

I my self don't particularly write alot of tickets I'm more into the high pace stuff

as for the hood checking... YOU DON'T NEED A SEARCH WARRENT!!! You just need P.C. and in CA there are new laws that give cops authority to check vehs to make sure that they are CARB legal. And I know were not prof auto mechs... thats why when we see something that appears out of CARB or SMOG LEGAL then we can write a ticket that makes you have your car be inspected by a ref. reason for all this is the large growing number of legal street racers and many of you that are riding w/o CATS which will place a larger amount of toxins into our AIR / Earth.

and one more thing... YES its true that some cops are Aholes but most are not and its unfortunate that the 1 or 2 bad apples can ruin a whole box?!?
