Default This Hard Top BS is costing me a load of $

I got a S2000 Berlina Black and I just bought the top from some pecker on Craigs list. He didnt give me the installation parts for the top so Ive been doing research and found that this is gonna be harder than I thought. Is it true that you freaking need a KIT A or B or something and is cost over $650 bucks for it. Damn and I believe it only applies to us 2000 and 2001 owners. Anyone know about this? I dont need the defroster kit just the side catchers etc right? And is this thing ahrd to install or should I just dish out a few hundred bucks and have it installed?

Yes you have to have the "A" kit ...is it a pain is the ass to install...i don't know
Go to www.hardtopguy.com for a price on the kit he's the cheapest you'll find

Edit....Kit "A" is 178.00 if your vin # is lower than 5730
kit "B" is (ouch) 500.00 if you vin is higher than 5730

I'm afraid that ontop of the kit that you have to purchase, you also have to purchase the defroster and the side catchers. The side catchers will run you about 400 while the defroster wiring should be around 100. The side catchers is not part of any outside kit, it is a part that comes with the hardtop when purchased from the dealer. That is why you have to buy it separately if the seller didn't give it to you.

Suddenly, what seemed like a really good deal on a used hardtop comes out with you spending about the same amount as what a brand new one costs. Hopefully that is not that case for you though. Good luck

The four digits? Are you talking about the last 4 digits of our VIN. I got a MY00 and I'm planning to get a HT too. My last four digits are 3431.

BTW, youmight want to contact the seller. Is he a local on S2ki?

If you only bought the hardtop and you have nothing else, Hardtopguy sells all of the parts you need as a kit (not a Kit A or B). See the info below for cost and a direct link to the page of his site.

In short, the 2000 S2000's need more parts to install the top. The hardtop was an after thought for Honda when the first S2000 rolled off of the assy line. They made changes to the car and that was done in 2000 on VIN 5730 or higher. Then in 2002 (this time it was done at a model year instead of a VIN number during a model year), they changes to the car that made the less parts needed to install the HT. This is mainly due to the defroster in the glass rear window.

So in short, if anyone is looking to buy a used hardtop, be sure to naildown what installation parts will be included. That hardto;p price may not be a good deal if the parts are not included. Buyer beware!

Hey STRATOCOASTER ! Thanks so much for your willingness t help out and save money for us already broke S2000 owners , well for me that is. But the sorry my impatience has got me comming out the wallet more than I thought. @ first I didnt know that all kits were differnt cause the guy I bought it from said all you need is Kit #c it comes with side catchers and not the defroster. I even told the guy I had a 2000 guess he just wanted the cash not caring about the fact that I was walking into a screwed up situation.

I thought that this deal was going to save anywhere from a $100 - $300 by buying off a private seller. Although I would have to repaint it because it is Silver it cost me around $300. But this wasn't stopping me so I picked it and brought to the autobody and they told me $500 to paint, I almost crapped my pants! They said because they have to take off molding, sand, etc. So I said screw it after looking for cheaper body shops it was the same crap.

Then I proceeded with top being painted as we speak and I went to the PC to order the kit C like the guy said I needed who I bought it from. Turns out the craps on back order and they will never get it in for few months that worked out cause it was the wrong one anyways. THanks to my forum affliates great knowledge. But damn I should have just bought a new one

PM'd u. I'm still kind of confused.

My last four digits are 3431. So I need:

2000 VIN UNDER 5730 hardtop installation kit

This kit gives you everything to need to install a used hardtop on your 2000 (vin under 5730) S2000.

Our price: $ 650.00

Is that right Stratacaster if I buy a HT, this is what I will need. Nothing else right?
