Default Hard Top Installation

My dealer (Motor Werks) of Barrington, is telling me that for model year 2001 no additional kit or tools are required for top installation. They are also encouraging me that it is a simple install and would reccomend me doing it at their lot when the top is delivered.

Anybody have experience installing a top for cars that don't need the modification kit?

Is the electrical work just connecting the heater?

What about adjusting the top?

Hugh

For a 2001 car, the installation time from Honda is 3.5 hours.

Hugh. There is only an additional kit for MY2000 models, because they need a new console and a few (different) panels.

Yes, the install is fairly easy. You don't need to be mechanically inclined as long as you read the steps thoroughly. It'll probably take anywhere from 2 - 4 hours, depending on your skill level. However, if you want, you can install just the brackets, put the HT on, drive the car home, then finish off the electrical work later when you have time. It will only take you about 30 minutes to fit the HT; the rest of the time is mostly taken up doing the actual wiring for the heater (and that is simply pulling off panels, and plugging in a new relay and wiring harness).

Adjusting the top on mine was fairly straightforward; I only had to adjust the height that the HT sits above the body panel, and then tighten the 3 bolts (each side). I didn't need to adjust the front latches.

Read these instructions: http://www.handa-accessories.com/S2000/s2khardtop.pdf If you want to try just installing the HT at the dealer's, and doing the rest of the install at home, PM me, and I'll tell you exactly which steps you will need to do.

Did it myself, took about 4 hours. Not difficult if you follow instructions but it just depends on how comfotable you are in pulling off body panels and doing wiring. You must remove the panels behind the seats, the side panels, the windshield header panels and the left door threshhold panel. Most just snap off or have only a screw or two but you have to be willing and trusting enough to give a good yank.

As for electrical, you remove the center console and install the heater switch in it. Then you run a harness around behind the drivers seat to the plug for the defroster.

Not particularly difficult if you carefully follow the instructions and are mechanicall inclined.

90-120 days?!? You might want to make sure your dealer knows what's going on. I hear that the tops are usually being shipped within 30 days.
