Default Hard top - MY2000, Panel replacement?

Hello -

I've been searching around the last couple days and cant seem to come up with a clear answer...

I have an early vin# MY2000 (pre 5730) and I think that the rear panels behind the seat need to be replaced if you install the kit for the hard top install.

I called the HardTop Guy and he mentioned that if I didn't want to spend the extra money to get the defrost working, that all i needed were strikers and catchers with brushes. I want to say I read that the rear panels need to be replaced to clear the catchers but I can't seem to verify that.

Also, I'm looking at picking up a top from a MY04. From all that I read, the top itself shouldn't have any issues. All I need are the strikers/catchers/brushes right?

Thanks for the help guys -

Rick

You are correct. The rear panels are replaced and comes in the kit.

... so reading a little more...

It looks like the hard top guy brushes are modified so that you don't need the panels replaced? I can't seem to confirm though...

You would have to ask jeff that. But the OEM parts on the pre 5730 vin cars were installed perm and are not replaceable. I am sure you could figure out how to remove them. But you should be able to find a set used in the FS forum (I know of two active FS threads as of today)

well, I ordered the kit from hardtopguy (Jeff).... very nice and helpful. He says it will work... and the brushes are removable, just not as easily as in later models.

Once they get here we'll find out!

thanks for the help gents. I'll let you know what happens. ..that said... "I'm feeling confident" to quote Jeremy Clarkson
