This thread establishes that the Alpine-Europe KCE-865B adapter WILL WORK with newer Alpine heads that accept a 3.5mm plug like the "mini" plug on stereo headphones.

To date Alpine USA has told the manager of my stereo shop and another friend of mine in the industry that the KCE-865B would not work with Alpine products distributed in the USA because the Europe and USA models "use a different language" to control the remote.

Not true!

Shane, g-s2k and I have ordered this adapter from the UK after Luis put us onto the piece. Mine came last Wednesday, but I'm waiting for a new Alpine head that is just entering the retail chain, so I sent mine to Shane and he installed it with his new multi-media system including the Alpine IVA-C800 CD Receiver / Mobile Multimedia Station.

For Alpine fans, this will preserve the dash controls as an alternative to Pinky's mod. Pinky's mod will work with many more units than this adapter will work with.

I'm going to get the Alpine CDA-7878 when it comes out. It has mp3 support for CD-R and CD-RW, a seven band equalizer and "Alpine High Precision DP-ST CD Transport" like the F#1Status.

This could be the best news released for the s2k if U want to listen to quality music on the road.

Going to do some investigation this weekend. Buy some new gear and attempt to install one of the sweetest sound ever.

Might go down the mini disc route. Also I am going forget a SUB.

I am a vey hapy s2K owner thanks to alpine!

I ordered mine from sales@incar-discount.co.uk .
Paul Hawkins will respond to your email. He is great to work with.

I paid about $80.00 including standard shipping. Standard shipping turned out to be airmail. I got mine in about ten days but I think that's because I was first and Paul could only get ahold of one and was backordered from Alpine. Shaner and g-s2k are waiting for theirs.

If you can wait, Soundgate ( http://www.soundgate.com ) might have the same unit VERY SOON except with plugs to fit USA Alpine units instead of the ISO connectors which are standard in Europe.

Check out the thread shaner referenced above. Shaner put in a great picture of the thing with labels on what does what.

Do we have any idea of how long before the Soundgate solution is available? Will the SG connector only work with US Apline head units or other US head units as well?

Sorry if this has been beaten to death -- just want to ensure I am considering all of my options before taking the plunge one way or another.

Thanks for the excellent info.

Just phoned an authorized audio dealer. He said kenwood provides a similar interface for the dash controls, but they would only work on the expensive models.
I had a look at some of the alpine head units. The removable face off looks quite ugly on some of the units when switched on.
