Just phoned an authorized audio dealer. He said kenwood provides a similar interface for the dash controls, but they would only work on the expensive models.
I had a look at some of the alpine head units. The removable face off looks quite ugly on some of the units when switched on.

Are you in the UK? If so, could you post details of who you contacted re. Kenwood interface (I have asked a couple of dealers but neither suggested this was a possibility). I am about to sell my high end Kenwood kit and replace it with similar spec Alpine stuff. I I can avoid doing this it will save me heaps of cash!! Look forward to your reply

Did some research and found out that this feature is only available with radio/cassette player KRC-PS979R.

Also you can only use this feature with vauxhall cars.

I guess alpine is the leader when it comes to dash controls alpine leads the way. U can contac the dealer or do to kennwoods web site.
