Hardtop????????????
Maybe it's me???? But I don't get it why anyone would buy a convertible only to pay an extra $3000 to put a roof on it. I guess I am just spoiled living in Southern California. Enlighten me, please.
uhm me either. but some of the racers like the added stability. on my Miata R, I'd put the top on when the rear window ripped. its handling characteristics are changed dramatically - far more solid at that point. since there is nothing adjustable on it, you gotta adjust the tire pressures, so going from 29#'s all around (anything more and it would rattle your bowels w/the Bilstiens), you'd go a little less in the rear to compensate. but it was a different car than the S - entirely.
You ARE spoiled. I live in So Cal too but I used to live in upstate NY. I can see a use for a hardtop in winter (of course I'd rather use a Jeep but...).
I imagine some people will actually prefer the look of the hardtop. Different strokes. Not as if the S2000 was ever sold as a hardtop and these people somehow chose the convertible.

I didn't buy it because it's a convertible. I got it for it's power train, performance and general all around looks. I would have prefered it to have been a 2 door coupe. What I really wanted was a Civic SiR coupe on steroids. The S is the closest thing to it. The convertible thing is just an added bonus.
Well, I think the hardtop looks pretty nice. When the weather hits 100+ degrees, I would prefer a silver hardtop (for my silver s2k) over a black softtop (or no softtop up) when I need to leave the car parked in the sun for a few hours. Plus, I don't need to worry as much about people sticking sharp pointy objects through my hardtop. Plus, it IS removable (and with the weather so nice, my hardtop is off and in the garage). People in colder or wetter regions have more reasons. Plus, some people bought the S2k for the performance, not necessarily for the convertible aspect... Anyways my 2 cents (yes, all I have left after buying the hardtop!

I echo xviper's sentiments exactly. Some of us didn't buy the S for it's convertible feature, just an added bonus. When I was shopping for a new car, I didn't go looking for a convertible, I went looking for a fun to drive car. That search led to the S. The fact that it's a convertible was not the key selling point. The key selling point is it's 2.0 240 hp asphalt kicking, corner like it's on rails handling ability that sold me.

I have a hardtop for the following:
1) looks nice
2) good insulation
3) less road noise
The top is removable if I want to go topless. I usually keep the top up anyways. I drive a lot in stop and go traffic so I don't like top down driving under those conditions. You know, all the exhaust gases you have to breathe, big trucks with black smoke, the sun beating down on you while the car isn't moving, etc. Now if I was driving on some road overlooking the Ocean, like PV, Malibu, or Monterey, going top down is simply awesome.

I just bought the hard top this week. I love it. The inside is much quieter. No road noise. Only that sweet engine reving. I bought it because I'm just days away from 115+ degree days that will last for the next 3 months. A great Arizona option. It'll be back to the open roadster from Oct. to May.
like some of you i also ordered the ht because i want my stook to look more like a little coupe. i didnt buy the car because of the fact it was a convert. i bought it because of its engine! you guys also forgot about the saftey aspect of having a ht, im sure rear visability is improved. do any of you have a yellow stook with a ht, or will i be the first...hehe. BTW do you guys think there are any aerodynamic improvements with the ht? or what about added rigidty?
