Hardtop - Any Reason Not to Buy?
Well, Is it a Convertible (Roadster) that you want or a Coupe? Why buy a hard top when you wanted a Convertible? (It has a top already)
The hard top will add more weight
** The X-frame of the S2000 is very rigid for a convertible, but also added the weight. If the S2000 is build to be a Coupe it will be much lighter car without the X-frame design (may be?).
2900# is a bit heavy for this car, If only Honda can keep the cost down and lose the weight to around 2300# (get rid of the covertible top motor!!) and move the gearbox to the rear axle. (like the (Porsche 928. So, the weight will transfer a little bit to the rear). Lighter but stronger wheels, move the battery, ECU and stereo (that's where the remote become handy) to the back to keep the rear wheel to the ground.
Buy a Used NSX if you want a coupe. (They also offer a T-top, but loses some rigidness)

41# IS a lot to some people. I heard people are even consider the weight of the color of the paint! I also heard red and yellow are pretty light (per gallon). The yellow are actually lighter than red, but with the metallic flakes in the paint will add up some weight. he, he... Only from what I hear, I can't prove anything!
It all depends on how extrem that you are going on losing weight. There are more weight can be taken off at the calipers and the rotors.
BTW, how much do that front plate weight?

Ha! Ha! Now is a choice between if you want a brand new car or an used one? You can find NSX anywhere from $27,000-$90,000 depending on the mileage and condition. You can probably find a pretty good one (1994-1996 model) around $36,000-upper 40's or low 50's.
I remember hearing people bought S2000 around $40,000+ when they first came out.
Remember if you want it hard enough, you can get it. (work for it)check out the NSX sites, I have seen used one financed anywhere from 4 years up to 8 years. he, he......

Okay, am I being flamed? he, he.... Don't believe anything on the internet! What I'm trying to do is give others my opinon. You can buy any car that you like. I can not stop you. Poeple drive Yugo's too, there is got to be some body buying them in the past. I have a little old 1972 Fiat 850 spyder, way under power (40Hp) but I love it. I have a friend in the Fiat club who owns a Yugo and modified into a fun car (very good hadling and over 180 Hp in a such small car).
My point is you buy what you like. I'm happy for you that you are happy with your car and be able to turn it into a coupe. (neat) Personally If I wanted a coupe, I buy one with proper designed coupe with it's own proper weight. MB SLK32 is pretty neat, kind of like a coupe and turn into a covertible (also the new Lexus) both have a lot of power too, but Not my cup of tea. You are right! There are many cars out there to choose from. I'm just narrowing down to the Imports, and in the Honda Family.
BTW, NSX are pretty reliable (made by Honda you know? Isn't that another reason you bought your S2000?) They are consider cheap to maintain in the EXOTIC car group. My Fiat are more troublesome, especially the parts for it. Some pieces like the door laches are the same that are used on the Ferraries (very espensive, but the car was under $2,000 when it was new.
Older NSX's were selling at around $60K when they were new, now they are Around $30K USED. That is another thing I didn't understand why people think they can make money by gettting a LIMITED S2000. I think so far there are still less than 10,000 units of NSX imported into US since 1991. Believe it or Not. Go surf the net! Don't believe what anyone says on the internet. GO find out for yourself!
I'm very happy for you ! really! I just put myself #1 on the waiting list for the MY2002 Sebring Silver S2000. I'm pretty sure they will come with glass rear window. So, I don't think I'll need the hard top for it. BTW, I do also have a removable hard top (Heavy steel with glass) for my Fiat 850 spyder too! (But that's a collectable item!)
Anyway, all these talk is way off tangent. All I'm REALLY saying is a Covertible (Roadster) is a Covertible. You don't need a hard top. It ADDS MORE WEIGHT (even is 41 lbs, it is still more weight that you are putting on top of the car!) I rememeber another thing about people are concern about weigh of gas when they race? I think it's about 5lbs /gallon? I remember hearing that some people always running at half tank or less to save weight? he, he........
SOrry for all the misspelled words! I'm in the hurry to work! later!
