Default HardTop or Beater For Winter ?

Dilema: I have been planning on getting a hardtop for the winter in Colorado and already have a set of wheels with M&S tires. But for $3,000 plus, I have been thinking of buying a beater instead. Keep the S2K in the garage on those nasty days and keep the magnesium chloride off of the aluminum & steel. Already have too many cars but could sell the beater in the spring. What are your thoughts?

you say you already have too many cars...why dont you drive one of those?

i think different people have different opinions, but if i was in your situation...i would get a nice beater.

hardtop can wait. i want one myself but i rather have something i can beat on whenever i want.

The other cars are in the same situation as the S2K; a '59 Austin-Healey, a '61 MG Midget and a Porsche 356 race car. None suitable for the winter commute. Thanks for your quick reply.

Cool

Hardtop for sure. How is that even a question? I'm trying to save up for the Mugen FRP top for $2750.00

buy a beater... winter driving is impossible with this car even with snow tires. unless you are like me... located where there is no winter.

I would get a beater. Salt and ice are not nice or kind to your S. Save your S for nice and sunny days.

Cheers,

I'm glad the last two people to reply don't even live in a 4-season area. Impossible to drive the S in the snow with snow tires? If you can't drive ANY car with good snow tires, you don't belong on the road at all.

jackk, I personally hate owning more cars than I have to. I'd go for snow tires/hardtop option. Plenty of people have been through lots of winters with the S. Ask anyone from Canada Of the tires, Blizzak's have been the favorite. I'll be picking up a set for this winter myself.

I to pondered this question. I've gone with a beater. I bought a used civic for around $4k (close to hard top price). I love my S too much for it to get messed up. Winter puts a strain on these cars especially the paint.
