Beater, beater, beater!

Yeah, there's no salt here in the Seattle area, but I grew up in Michigan and lived in Massachusetts until I was 60. The S would probably do fine in snow with the right tires, but there's no getting around the rust bug. Keep your nice car nice - wait for good weather.

I say buy a beater. I've seen what a winter (actually just the salt) can do to a perfectly clean car in just one winter, and it's bad news. It peeled the paint off my valve cover and other panted things in the engine bay, rusted up the suspension, and froze up all the hinges (this was on my MR2 BTW). Also after getting a beater you will never know how you lived without one.

beater... I drove the S to my girlfriends for a christmas dinner (i live in the northern suburbs of chicago)... happened to have a blizzard that night, she lives about 25 miles from my house. I drove behind a vette heading east on I-90 @ 10-15mph w/ my hazards on - IT'S NOT EASY, the smallest bit of gas and your rear end gives.

buy a beater... winter driving is impossible with this car even with snow tires. unless you are like me... located where there is no winter.
Try telling that to the Canadian drivers who dare the snow in their S every year.

not true at all.....I picked up my S in Oct of 02....so of course i wanted to drive it in the winter cause i just got it blizzaks and 2 40lb bags of concrete mix (the fit perfect in the trunk well ) and i had a snow Ferrari....I no longer drive it in the winter because I didn't want to put it through the harsh weather...but it can be done, and done very well

The only issue I've had with driving an S2000 in the snow is ground clearance. But if it snows that much, I stay home.

I wanted to get a beater, not because I'm afraid to drive it in the snow, but sometimes it would be nice to have another commuter with 4 seats.

I'm down with the beater idea. I'd have gone that way myself, if I had the garage space. Buy it now for $3000, sell it for $3000 in the spring.
