Default hardtop discontinued..

ok i want to make sure before i go ahead with this -

7 weeks ago i ordered an OEM hardtop for my 2001 S2000 from a dealer.

today i found out that the hardtops for the 00-01 S2000 have been discontinued.

the parts guy read a memo he received and it said the 02+ hardtop WILL NOT fit the 00-01.

now why is this? i thought they were all the same. is it the KIT they mean, or the top itself?

any advice is appreciated. thanks.

The top is the same. Its the hardware that is different. Check hardtopguy.com.

I think HT is the same but the strikers are different, , if you can't find them from hardtopguy, there must be tons of them floating around, as they come with the kit, and AP2 buyers don't need them, so there must be some for sale.

I am not sure about MY00, but in later models, defroster is prewired already, all you have to do is plug things in, there is no hardware related other than a wire.

How difficult is it to install a hardtop?

And how difficult is it to remove and put back on?

i don't believe mine is pre-wired.. i'm looking at the instructions and there's pages and pages on just the defroster install lol. i just don't wanna spend ANOTHER $600 on a hardware kit after spending over $2600 on the top!!!!

although i'm wondering if that price includes the hardware. i guess i'll find out when my parts guy calls me back.

I installed it my self in about 3.5 to 4 hours, installing the hardtop was pretty easy, what gave me headache is aligning it and getting rid of the rattles and wind noise, once everything is done correctly, taking the hardtop in and out is just a matter of releasing the front a rear latches, then taking it out, pretty simple.

I think all you need is the side catchers then
http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/product.ph...1&cat=92&page=1,
you can even leave the stock brushes in place or buy them individually

confirm the compatibility with MY00 with him though, my car is 2005, but I don't think there is much difference.
