Default Hardtop flex?

So I purchased an OEM Hardtop the other day and if fits fine with no leaks or anything, but inside the cabin it feels like flexing when I go on curbs or inclines at an angle.

I know it's common in mkiii supras, or even other cars....I just wanted to know if its common.

You can hear it flex from where the windshield meets the beg. of the hardtop.

Thanks.

I definitely hear this too...you should lubricate the rubber seals with shin etsu grease to eliminate any other sounds.

Wow, this went down hill reeeel fast.

Put some of this around the black moulding between the softtop and body work. It eliminates 90% of what you are hearing. Reapply it every time you put your HT on.

You can also treat all the rubber seals with it.

I think it's the body flexing against the HT and not the other way around. After applying the silicone you might consider one or more of the aftermarket bars that are intended to prevent body flex.

Does shinetsu last through rain? Im using some generic white lithium grease and it squeaks again after every rain storm.

I have all the reinforcement bars out except for a roll bar and I noticed it transfered the flex even more into the top. I hear the flexing even with the soft top closed.

Yep... It appears to last through at least a few heavy rains; I reapply Shin Etsu to all rubber seals about once a year.

For the hard top - I went to the dealer and bought some Shin Etsu silicone lube, then applied it to all the soft black rubber seals on the outside edges of the hard top/windshield where the HT mates to the windshield, body, and around the windows.

For latch rattles... the dealer can give you some EPT Sealant (kind of like foam weather stripping), it really doesn't take very much to perform the fix below:

Clickie ---> Squeaks and Rattling Latch Fix

I performed the fix, AND tied down the latch hooks on each side of the lowered soft top with plastic cable ties (rubber bands work too); now my hard top is very, very, quiet - even on the bumpiest roads.
