Thumbs up Hardtop Installation

I'm getting a hard top soon... Hopefully anyways, and the dealership charges like $1100.00 to install it. I'm wondering if it's really that hard to do or if i (well my husband) could install it himself. I don't know if it requires any drilling or anything like that so i'm just trying to find out. I tried to search this topic on here but the search bar wasn't helping me any so sorry if this is a repeat question. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

I am in the same boat as you are. I have the top and just waiting on rear latches to show up so they can be installed. The top obviously can be put on by one or two people. The hardware is where all the time would be put. But I really do not think it will be that hard. Anyone who has done this please enlighten us!!!

To my understanding Honda has a certain alignment tool to align the hardware so the hardtop fits perfectly on the car. otherwise there will be a lot of vibration, windnoise and chance of the hardtop scratching the paint on the car. This is what i've been told and this information has actually deterred me from purchasing a hardtop. $1100 seems a little steep, i've heard $500 at honda elsewhere.

There is no special alignment tool, my top took about 2 hours and I was taking my time.

Aligning the top is a measure and adjust process, it's easy.

$ 1100.00 is a rip-off.

I thought $1100 was a rip off too so that is why i thought i would ask people here. I really want the hardtop b/c it's so nice but i think they're overcharging way too much just to put it on. Well thanks everyone for the help, especially thanks for the directions!!!

I actually just installed one over the weekend on my 2002. It took me under and hour to install by myself and that's including the side catchers, alignment, etc... I actually only had to adjust it the one time and it fits great.
I'd like to think I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but I'm not a "certified mechanic" or anything like that either.

My wife and I just installed our hardtop this weekend in about 4 hours. We were quoted $227 and even saved that. Just read the instructions and it is a piece of cake. Top looks great too.
