I had to take off many plastic covers behind the seats in order to install the mounting kit. Also, the top didnt fit properly so i did maaaany regulations (some bolts near the glass window) and finally called for professional help!.

put mine on lastnite. pretty straight forward until you put the top on and adjust the gap. overall time 2.5 (had to wait until my wife got home from shopping to help me lift the top onto the car )

So....is the conversion kit REALLY necessary for the hardtops?

From what Jeff at Ganley told me the C-kit contains a different wire harness than the one that comes with the HT, and one of the side mounts (drivers' side I believe) contains a micro switch that does two things. 1) cuts off power to the softtop switch so it can't accidentally be activated, and 2) reroutes power from the softtop defroster to the hardtop defroster. The kit also contains new striker plates for the MY cars that don't already have the newer version.

- not sure, didn't seem hard at all...
- I used air tools, that shouldn't matter though...

I had no problem doing mine. Yes, you have to remove the interior plastics. But this is all in the instructions, and therefore shouldn't be too surprising (IMO).

Hahahah....when I did my install I put it on myself and I know other locals who take it off themselves. You can do it it's just dangerous and considering how much you paid for the car and the HT it's not worth it. I swore off taking it off/putting on myself after I did it once. The weight isn't the problem it's the bulk. If you do a self install you really really want another set of hands
