Default Hardtop: Key Reasons to Have It

I recently got the hardtop for my red racer (2004 S2000), primarily to reduce interior noise. I'm coming to love an additional aspect about it that I've never heard claimed: greater chassis stiffness. I didn't really notice when I donned the hardtop for the first time, but when I took it off--wow. Couldn't believe how wiggly it felt relative to having the hardtop on. Still a stiff guy any way you equip it, however.

One of the claims to fame is, of course, the roadster's super-stiff chassis as it comes from the manufacturer. I test drove a BMW 330ci convertible and couldn't believe how floppy the thing felt compared to the S2000. But now that I've added the hardtop, I can't believe the extra stiffness it adds to the already stiff car.

I ask for others that have the hardtop to post what they like best about it. I'm interested in the order, as well as if you come up with a reason nobody else has thought of. Here's my list of reasons, in decreasing order of importance:

(1) Reduced Interior Noise
(2) Added Chassis Stiffness (and Tighter/More Secure Feel)
(3) Larger Rear Window
(4) Good, Alternative Exterior Look
(5) Improved Interior Appearance

Come on everybody come on; list your reasons in decreasing order of importance to you.

Stan

- even though I dont have an S, I would say an anti-theft device...
- no more cutting holes in the soft top to get into the car...

i just got one too!!! You guys listed most of the reasons. I guess I could add that it helps with the longevity of the soft top. It was raining today in Socal and hardtop performed magnificently since the soft top didn't see any rain whatsoever!

I do not like the looks off the OEM hardtop, I think its too "bubbley" for the hard lines of the car. The Mugen on the other hand...

6) Some tracks won't let you on them unless you have an aftermarket rollbar or a hardtop :-)

I would doubt that it makes the chassis stiffer unless the HT is welded to the body.

You may however feel increased road stability due to improved aerodynamic efficiency and decreased coefficient of drag.
