Default Hardtop kit changes by year

I have a 2005 s2k, and I was wondering if I had to buy an install kit (for the defroster wiring) if I wanted to buy a used pre '02 hardtop with all the hardware. Anyone know?

An 02 is mostly prewired for the HT defroster. You do need to add a small harness that attaches to a plug behind the seat, then to the defroster hookup for the HT.

You will need 2 body side catchers, 2 new brushes that attach to the inner interior panels, The short defroster harness, and the 2 rubber link stoppers that go on the soft top frame.

Sorry I wasnt very clear in my first post. What I meant was, say I buy an '00 hardtop with all the hardware associated with it. If I wanted to install it on my '05, would I have to buy additional hardware for the defroster wiring? From what i'm aware, the hardtop should mount ok between years.

The 00's defroster is wired different. You will need the harness for a 02-06

You will most likely need that small wiring harness and a driverside rear catcher. But that depends on when he bought the top. Both of these are for the defroster to work right.

The hardtop is the same for all years. Even without the parts above, if you remove the top and everythings else from the owners car, you can install it and drive home. That is how I picked up mine. It was on an 01 and I did not need to buy anything.
