Default Hardtop Question

Just picked up a hardtop about a month ago and today called my insurance. I removed my whole convertible assembly and advised them the car is now a hardtop. They took my info and advised they would need to email state farm them selves to see what the procedure is since this is the first time they deal with a case like this.

My question is if anyone has done this before, and if so what deductions did you see from this. Ofcourse the deductions depend on your coverage but at least to get an idea percentage wise.

And also, if they say there is no deduction, would it be worth to call state farm themselves to see if this can be lowered.

I know that my friend that works with Geico won't lower insurance because of this... But maybe if you write a letter to the corp. office stating the facts and such, its a long shot thou

Since the hard top is not structural, I doubt they will do anything for you.

I do agree with that, but now there is no chance of someone tearing your top and you filing a claim, also for security its a better measure.

While you're talking to your agent, you may want to verify that the top would be covered if it's damaged or stolen. IIRC, when I filed a claim several years back, they stated that they only cover items that are bolted (or otherwise permanently secured) to the vehicle. Since the hardtop is removable using clips & levers, it might not be covered (unless there is a specific inclusion clause).

It's worth checking out.
