fedex cracks my hardtop
***added 3-5-08 Me and greg (PARTSHELPER) decided to handle the issue on our own and I will just keep the hardtop and get it repaired locally with the help of parthelper. Thanks Greg

To keep a long story short, @ the end, I get the hardtop from fedex but it had a chip at the bottom edge of the hardtop, and a 3 inch crack on the roof of the hardtop.... You guys should've seen the box, i thought it would've been worse...
This is after a month since my top was slashed.. and now still no top... I'm thinking more on just getting a soft top locally (or an oem hardtop that is also close to local)...
but my question is, with their insurance claim process, will they give me the money? or would I be required to order the same exact hardtop again?? hopefully they'll give me just te money, dont wanna deal with this ordeal again..

Did you have the courier scan the package as damaged when he delivered it?
Have you started a claim process if not you can start it by calling 1-800-go fedex or
1-800-463-3339. Also when the packaged was shipped did the shipper declair a value for the shipment? Hopefully this works out for you.

Fedex is crap. I bought a type-r tranny for my integra a while back, the guy showed me how he shipped it and everything, he used plywood with popcorn bubble wrap everything you can think of. And I swear it came to my door in what looked like a huge milk crate, or those recycling crate looking things all cracked with a piece of paper with my adress taped on the tranny. All they said was "some people dont understand the journey of a box" and thats all I got. I didnt bother with any claims since it worked.
Yes i did file a claim last night. When I didnt get the package wednesday, I called them and asked why it didn't arrive (on website it was scanned for "loaded for local delivery.") So I ended up speaking with a customer advocate and they promised me it will be shipped @ my choice of time the next day, which i said 530pm or later, she said they will hire a seperate courier if they don't have any trucks available if they have to. I get a call from the local general mgr the next day and he was basically trying to weisel his way out of delivering it that day. He stated it might not be delivered that day because it was removed from the delivery truck since someoen told them last night it needs to be removed... that it would've been delivered that next day if i didn't make that call to the customer advocate, as if I was to blame.
Well, i later found out that night after speaking with the customer advocate AGAIN that it was NEVER loaded on the truck the first day it came. The box was severely damaged and the delivery person didn't want to load it to his truck without it getting inspected... The manager basically lied to me about it being loaded on the truck and then stating it had to be removed from the truck because of my call to their "customer advocate."
In the end, I asked them if I could have the roof in the meantime while waiting for the brand new roof since i've been without a roof for about a month now and need a vehicle to go to work with... and they said no, it might get damaged.
Was hoping after all these events i would get some kind of sign of their"customer service" but no luck. I would never use fedex again.

If you declared the correct value or, even better, had insurance on the top then you should be okay.
I can honestly say I've had a good experience with Fedex claims, unlike UPS. My fedex claim was probably far less in value than your hardtop though.
My UPS experience was trying to get a claim straightened out over a turbo kit for my old civic (similar in cost to your HT). What a headache, I seriously felt like I was pulling teeth and the best part was that it got "lost" in transit. (more like someone got themselves a nice kit at a huge discount)
Like I said based on my experience you'll be fine and at the least you'll get the default $500, which you could use to repair the top. I know it's a band-aid but its better than nothing.
Good luck.

fedex claims takes anywhere from 7-14 business days and sometimes longer depending on what the problem is. with damaged packages they do the claim faster. you should have had fedex ship it back to the shipper when you found out that it was damaged and had them do the claim that way. with you taking delivery of the top you might run into problems where fedex has to come back and pick that up and prolonging the process. i've even had problems with them saying that it was dropped off in good condition and I was SOL. only the shipper is gauranteed the payment, not the reciepient, since the shipper is the one that insured the package.
good luck and hopefully they take care of you soon.

but it was documented though by fedex that it was damaged, thats why it wasn't delivered the first day. they inspected it and it looks fine.. my first initial inspection i said it looked fine thats why i took it..
the 2 damages involved are small, and you would not be able to see it without finely going through every inch of the hardtop. The moment I saw those 2 damages, thats when I called them.. I said I was willing to keep the top and not report a claim, as long as they could promise me that if those 2 initial cracks start to get worse, that i would get reimbursed. I do not think it would get bigger, and i'm probably 90% sure it would not spread...but something of this value i do not want to take a chance on. And when i found out that most likely it would not b covered (the first supervisor i spoke with made it sound like it would be covered), then I ended up filing a claim.
and as far as getting the $500 default amount, unfortunately, they would still have to get the top, so i loose out on 3k.
what bugs me is the lies from both the local management and their customer advocate associates... i'm glad my gf was bugging me to file a claim.. I was like, eeehhh, i'll just patch it up and it should be good to go...lol
Well, just found out that the hardtop was declared $2k for the value, is that the maximum that fedex will give me then? Or can they clearly see that the value to the seller is not nec the same value to the buyer since the seller has to make a profit somehow right?
damm, i might be forced to just keep the hardtop as i would be losing 1500 in the process.
this is turning into a nightmare.
I'll be clarifying this later today once they assign a claims person to my case.. what a headache
