Default Hardtop storage without a stand

I'm taking the hardtop off my car for the first time this weekend. I have a nice padded bag for it from the previous owner, but no garage to hang it in and no stand. I've seen some mention in other threads of people storing it flat on the ground. Right now my top is in the padded bag on the floor of my apartment with a rolled up camping mat under the front end and a rolled up t-shirt under each of the spikes. Is there any better way to do this and what do I need to do to keep from damaging the top?

Thanks!

rest it upside down on a soft surface or stand it up on its front edge up against a wall and the leading edge of the roof on the ground on a soft surface. I don't like resting it on the pins as it sometimes causes the roof to go out of adjustment if the supporting bolts are tight enough and torqued properly.

I had my mugen replica popped up against the wall in the garage with a beach towel (long towel) on the floor to keep it from anything more than swirls on the edge. Absolutely no problems in a year I had it there.
Always moved it with 2 people.

abs tubing makes great stand and is not that expensive. i think using some towels would work perfectly but i always like a stand for the hardtop.

Thanks for the tips! My top is now standing against the wall with a coupe of pads under the front edge.
