Hardtop Tape
I bought a hardtop and I know it look better with the windshield tape off. But I heard some members found the inperfect paint job under the tape. Should I take the risk to take the tape off?
take it off if you plan on leaving the hardtop on for most of the year. otherwise leave it on. i say that because it looks pretty bad when you take the top down and have no windshield tape. makes the car look taller and odd IMHO.

Coco;
Chances are you will have "unfinished" paint under the tape.
On mine, it took about a 45 min starting with HD rubbing compound and working up to fine polish/glaze, then wax to get it to shine.
The color was there, just no shine, and only in about 3 spots the size of match books. Looks like the factory forgot to buff it out.
IMO look better without the tape. There are many makes which color match the window frame on convertibles, so you're not doing something that hasn't been done.

TAKE THat sucker off!!!
since you have a 2005, it will be alot easier to remove rather than someone with a 2002 model trying to remove it 3 years later. i just got a hardtop to and can't wait to remove the tape.
besides, if you are a true "JDM" fan, remember that japan doesnt offer the black tape on any of there new s2k's, only US and Canada gets it.
