Default Hardtop + trunk rack = good fit?

I'm going skiing in a couple of weeks (finally!). Clearly, there's no chance of getting the skis inside the car (esp. with the hardtop on). So, I can either rent something to get the skis up there, or else I could buy a luggage rack for the trunk:

The problem is, it doesn't appear to me that with the hardtop on, that I'd be able to open the trunklid with this rack attached. Does anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

Depends.....how big are you skis and are you taking a second person? I snowboard and I can pretty easily fit my 164cm board in the passenger seat.

You may have another option also. While there is no specific roof rack for an s2k(most are softtops) You may be able to get custom(or off the shelf) feet that mount in the rain grooves of the HT. These are how many cars mount their racks and I think are temporary. This has a good chace of being cheaper(and I think) more secure than the ski options for that trunk rack.

I've thought about doing it but I've never really called to find out.

My skis are 172 cm. Seems like it would be pretty tight.

Calvin-

Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably go ahead, then.

Any more feedback or experience you'd want to share about the rack? Quality, potential for scratches on trunk, driving impact (forget about the rear window, I'd assume, if you have a suitcase on the back), etc?

IMHO - I would forgo launching any cash at that rack, take the money and rent a car with room and stuff all your vacation crap in there. If I woke up, walked outside and saw that rack plastered to the rear lid... I'd jump on something sharp and end it all.

the rack is well made. I've taken it off few times and it did not scratch the trunk lid yet. there are rubber pads where the rack touches the edges of the lid. I occasionally need it but since it's a pain to put it on and off, I just leave it on now. I have not taken it off for about 3 mos now. IMHO, it does not look too bad. I rather drive s2k than a rental and look is less important to me.
