Has anyone done a glove box conversion?

One final thought that came to mind is that perhaps someone expert with fiberglass could take the existing 00-05 panel out and look to see what's behind it. If the answer is "nothing," as I suspect, this person could hollow out the original panel and fabricate some type of glove box type thing in its place. I don't know anything about working with interior stuff though, so I haven't bothered with this idea either...
Unfortunately it's not nothing

There are things there (HVAC related I think?) I don't even have that panel on in my car because I snapped off a couple clips last time I removed it. I don't care because I have the black dash but red i would've replaced it already.

Trust me guys, this cubby is a waste of space. You can't store anything normal there (who carries CD's anyway) and it doesn't lock. I have a few napkins and the gf's hairbands.

It is very small. Perfect for my MP3 player to hide in but not for anything else. I also understand the dash is different so it isn't easy to retrofit.
