I got the TAO upgrade on my car when I purchased it. My problem is the alarm keeps setting itself. Here is my problem with that: I drive into the garage, shut the car off, get out, shut the door, open the trunk to get stuff (groceries or whatever) out and the alarm sets itself. My service people are screwing with me. I don't think it is possible to find one that doesn't lie like a dog. The service people tell me it is the alarm, the alarm people tell me it is the car locking the doors that is doing it. I just want to know if anyone else has this problem.

Thanks,

What's the TAO upgrade?

I have the Honda factory alarm and I haven't had any problems with it, although the keychain transmitter goes through batteries faster than any alarm I've had before.

I have mine set to arm passively (there's a switch on the receiver under the driver's seat). If you use the remote to open the trunk or use the trunk release button, the alarm shouldn't go off.

Are you getting out of the car and then trying to open the trunk with the key after the alarm has armed itself? This is the only thing I can think of that would set off the alarm.

It was something offered at my dealership. It included the infrared trigger for when the top is down and some other things.

Having the alarm arm itself is an option. YOu can set it to do so or you can set it NOT to do so. Mine is flaky about that, though. Sometimes it arms itself and sometimes it doesn't. Did you get the alarm user manual with the car? If not, you should have. There's a fair amount of useful information there...

It HAS been set not to set itself but still does it. The service people are trying to tell me that this is normal. I just want to make sure that it is. If it is "normal" I am going to have them take their alarm out, give me my money back for it and buy one from someone else. They have told me if I leave a door open it will not do it. They are also calling this a feature. I don't know about you, but this is not what I would call a feature. If I am out somewhere and get into my trunk, the last thing I want to do is leave one of my doors open. Why not leave the keys in it too?

I'm still not clear as to whether this is the Honda factory alarm or not. I don't know anything about an infrared trigger for when the top is down. This is not part of the factory alarm as far as I know.

The TAO (I assume they are an alarm company) people work for my Honda dealership. I really don't know if it is a Honda alarm or not, it uses the same remote though. It was offered as an upgrade to the existing alarm system when I bought the car. The infrared trigger has infrared lights that shoot out across the inside of the car that are activated when you arm the alarm. If anyone puts their arm, hand, body in the car and breaks the beam it activates the alarm. So it's great if you are going in someplace real quick and don't want to put the top up.

I have had no end of trouble with alarms. Honda didn't have an option to install an alarm here so I added an after market unit. The first was a Black Widow. It never worked and gave me no end of grief. That has come out and a Cobra unit has now been fitted.

That also doesn't work. I am starting to think that there are some strange goings on in the electrical system.

Good Luck

These are precisely the reasons why I got the HONDA alarm system instead of an after-market one (even though it is overpriced).

I had problems before with my Civic that had Code Alarm. The electric locks would suddenly open and close for no reasons at all

IMHO, go with the manufacturer's alarm option. At least they tested this with the car compared to a generic alarm.

I'm planning on getting a Viper system with a prox. sensor. Anyone have problems with this one? If the factory one had a prox. sensor I'd just get that one, but unfortunately it doesn't.
