Hi. I'm wondering if my car has shifting problems or not. Occaisionally, my shifter will pop out of 4th gear into neutral. It may be driver error. If so, it would have happened to somebody else at least once.

Has your shifter ever popped out of 4th? At least once?

 

mine did it once when I did not go all the way into 3rd but not fourth. If this is a common thing with your fourth gear it sound like you might need new 4th gear syncro

 

If you don't engage the gear fully, it can certainly pop out, but usually as soon as you start to let out the clutch. I've never had this happen once a gear was fully engaged.

 

Mine used to pop out of 6th like once a month after I bought it new. Knock on wood, it hasn't happened in a long time. Took it to the dealer for warranty work, but obviously couldn't recreate it.

 

Mine pops out of 4th every once in a great while.

 

There was a TSB on the earlier MY for the car poping out of 4th gear but not on the MY06 https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=103975 .

Does it happen regularly? If so is the car under warranty? If it is I would take it to the dealer and see what they say.

mlc is on to something. I remember reading something about 4 popping out into neutral in the MY 02's and 03's in alldata.

 

My '00 has been popping out of 4th quite a bit lately. Thanks for the link above - time to start research.

 

Unless you have a good relationship with your dealer I doubt they are going to help. A 10 year old car, I don't think they are going to do a TSB. It is just a Service Bulletin it is not a recall. I have seen a lot of guys just lay there hand on the shifter as the engine is decelerating to keep it in gear.

Hell it doesn't hurt to ask and see what they say.

I've had that happen a couple of times, maybe 2-3 times total. Mostly driving home a little tired. Usually about a mile from work. Engine warm enough but maybe not the gearbox.
