The bike comparison is spot on. I rode for 2 years exclusivly and multiple times I had people try and change lanes right into me. People DON'T see bikes, they don't pay attention that's why YOU have too.

You end up watching everyone and try to anticipate they're actions all the time, you have to be extremely defensive. Of course this is only when in heavy traffic on an open road it's different.

I'm not a horn guy and doubt that I would ever think to use it. The only way I know that my horn actually works is the signal you gat when locking the doors with a double press on the key fob.

This just happened to me last week. I was behind a raised truck pulling out of a parking lot. He waited there for a good 15 seconds with no cars coming, then all of a sudden reversed. It was like an "OMG" moment. I've never shifted into reverse so fast before. I honked like crazy and he stopped. I guess he didn't see anyone and decided to reverse again. I held down the horn this time, but couldn't reverse anymore since there was another car behind me. Only reason he stopped was because EVERYONE started to honk. Boy, was that a close call.
+1 wow exact same story happened to me over a year ago....

Yea. It's terrible. I try as much or as fast as possible to get out of the blind spot of other vehicles. Especially, trucks and SUVs. Well, that's what we get for owning this car.

Riding a bike helped me be more defensive, but it can't prevent morons from running into you - nothing will. I keep the lights on high beam even in the day, drive about 3 mph faster than the flow, stay way back of any SUV, & play the horn at the first indication of lane drifting. Prevention is the key...

It's amazing how effective driving with your brights on during the day can be -- you'll definitely notice a difference.

yeah this happened to me couple weeks ago but what makes it worse people can't use there damn blinkers when they switch lanes either. A van came in my lane pushing me almost in a ditch as a laid on my horn for about 5 seconds using no blinker. He swerves back over and I speed up to go around him. Now that being said im not a person that takes this stuff lightly and have bad temper problems so at the next light I get out and proceed to tell them what I think. Now im not saying thats the smartest thing to do or right thing but my girl and car are my life.

Yes , yes, yes. I echo all of your comments. People don't expect us. Lots of people who just don't look to either side, don't use their mirrors, don't use their eyes, don't know how to get on the freeway, etc. Incredible.
cruise safely if you can
