Default Having a hard time checking oil... Any ideas?

This is my first oil change with my S2k and I poured 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic in and checked the dip stick but it was hard to see the oil. I'm not use to the stainless steel dip stick and I don't know where the X marks the spot. The manual says to add 5.1 quarts but does that .1 really matter? Should I have anything to worry about? Thanks for any help in advance.

First of all, you shouldn't put synthetic in on the first oil change, b/c it will not allow the engine to properly break in. You fill the oil up to the top of the top X on the dipstick.

and better to slightly underfill than to slighly overfill!!
(btw, the dealer told me not to go synthetic until i had 12000 miles on the engine)

I'm just having a hard time seeing the oil because it's not dark enough. So I cant tell exactly where it is and it also seems that one side of the XXX is higher than the other side.

I take the dip stick and lay it flat on a paper towel. Then compare he oil mark it makes on the paper towel with the markings on the dip stick. Hope that helps

pull it out. wipe it off dry. put it back in. count to three. pull in out and hold it upside down. the oil should form a drop on the dip stick, dip stick.

Good luck.

new oil is sometimes hard to read. Lay it on a paper towel.
