Default Header wrap/tape

I know alot of the older cars use to use this, especially in racing. Has anybody here tested this on our car? Are there any disadvantages to using exhaust tape? I would think it would help alot with under hood temps.

Here's a site that sell it: http://www.racerwholesale.com/catalog/prod...products_id=298

I used it on a header in the past. I would recommend not wrapping a header. The underhood temps are reduced some, but not enough to the warrant the trade offs. When the wrap gets wet, it keeps moisture against the header. Over time, this causes corrosion. My header was toast in about a year and a half. Also, if you wrap a stainless steel header, the additional heat kept inside the tubes has a tendency to crack the welds. I've never seen this personally, but I have read reports from other people and seen enough pics to make me never wrap a header again.

If you want to keep temps down, send the header out to get coated some place like JetHot, HPCoatings, etc.

it's really a non issue with me. Just looking for some cheap mods. I feel better when I'm putting stuff on the S

The S's engine bay stays pretty dry compared to most, but I can see how the wrap could make things worse.
