Default Headrest Speakers on 2005 S2000

Ok, I'm selling my 2001 Boxster S, I should have bought an S2000 in the first place.

So I'm negotiating with the dealer today through the Fleet Department. One of the options I'm looking into is the headrest speakers.

1. Does anyone have these and are they worth it?

2. Are there any other options that you would recommend getting on this car, besides the cargo net?

Thanks for you quick responses. I'm hoping to have this car at the end of the day.

I think the generaal consensus on here is that they are not worth it. I have read that most people prefer the aftermarket S-Pods as they allow the user to pick whichever component speakers they wish to use.

Check around in the Electronics forum.

I got the head rest speakers in short.....they are not worth it. I got em from

Hard top Guy for Xmas 400.00 actually not a bad price. But i took em to my

Honda dealer cause i wanted it done right......took em all day and cost 400.00

to install....thats right $400.00 dollars. And the sound you get is no way in hell

worth $ 800.00. Now that being said i still have the stock head unit and i'm hoping

that when i get my new Alpine unit that will improve. If you can get your dealer

to throw em in for free ....well ok.....but i sure as hell wouldn't pay for em.

Good god that's a lot of scrilla for an install...

I would recommend that you get what you can for free or at a good discount cause it's always cheaper negotiating the aftermarket stuff when your buying the car.

Whether you end up really using the stuff (cargo net) is besides the point...at least you feel you got a good deal and got the extra bells and whistles..

I got my 04 w/OEM lip/strakes/spoiler for about half of the cost and install fees were waved.

We went with the "S" pods and they are great.

On the highway, top down, windows down, there is NO problem hearing the tunes!

S pods are around $240.00, speakers were around $100.00, then you have to have them installed.

A mod well worth it's money.

I installed the headrest speakers in about 3 hours. The installation is pretty straightforward - I followed the directions I got from HandA. Even feeding the wire through the seats was not that difficult. Hardest part was getting under the dash which we (i.e., my son) did while the seats were out.

As for sound, I have nothing to compare them to as I've never heard anyone else's S. The headrest speakers add more sound that there was without them (obviously). I didn't want to fill the hole in the hoop with S pods.

screw the stock headrest speakers! They look more aftermarket than the S-pods! I like the clean look of the S-pods, especially if you split the bar cover to conceal the wires. The sound AWESOME!

Do you really want to have a perfectly new car touched at all? I thought about the add-on until images of potential damage by the dealership crept into my dreams.

On the same logic-be there when the car shows up on the truck and don't let them put swirl marks all over it by washing it.

I have heard that with the S-pods, you can hook them up by your self, just dont hook into the back of the radio. Take it to the dealership and have them hook into the wiring harness. Then you have not tampered with any of the exisiting radio, so they can't kill the warranty of the radio of that. By doing this you also will cut down on the installation charges of the dealer, because all they have to do is pop off the cover for the radio, slide the radio out, and connect the wires to the clip on the back. No more than 30 minutes of work.
