Default A 'heads-up' on pricing in the Southeast

A few days ago I put down a deposit on a new '03 Silverstone/black for $29,785. I live in Columbia, SC and just wanted to share the pricing info for anyone in the area. I started my search at Midland's Honda here in town and they said they'd match any price I could find. So, I set out to find the best price. Someone on the board mentioned that Breakaway Honda in Greenville, SC was advertising for $29788, so I contacted them first. They immediately told me "no, we can't do that price... the price you are inquiring about was for one particular car that had been on the lot for a while." But, then I noticed on their website it says 'come see why the s2000 is voted number one in its class! all that and under $30,000!' I figured if I asked them about it all they'd do is give me some BS about why their website says that. So, I found email addresses to other dealerships and basically wrote that the best price I found was for just under $30,000 from Breakaway Honda in Greenville. To make a long story short, Honda Cars of Rock Hill said they'd beat it at $29,785. I took the quote in to Midland's Honda and they matched the price, no questions asked. And, I'm getting this price on a brand new one on order. If anyone in the area is looking to buy, then ask for David Partin at midland's. He has been extremely cool through the entire process, and not once have I felt pressured. I just want to add that I did all of the price negotiations with the other dealerships through email, which I consider to be a big plus. I didn't have to talk to 10 different pushy salesman, and ultimately the quote I got was in writing... all I had to do was print off the email and take it to the dealership.

Now comes the hard part... waiting for the car to arrive! Anyway, just wanted to share my experience and hopefully someone can take advantage of the info.

Excellent price! I bought mine in February of '02 for $1000 off MSRP ($31,200). It had been on the lot for close to two weeks. Prices have definitely dropped over the past year...I'm still surprised you did so well now that top-down weather has arrived.
You'll find it's worth the wait!

What is your salesperson's email? I would be willing to go to SC to pick up a S2000 if I could get it for 29.7k

Thanks

Lightsped- I don't know if he has an email address. I think at most dealerships only the internet sales manager has an email address. I would suggest just calling the dealership. Or better yet, email the internet sales manager in Rock Hill, SC and get in writing what their price is. Then bargain with a dealership nearby you that's willing to price match. Tell them that you can get it for $29.7k in SC and you're willing to drive that far if they can't match the price. Good luck...

If I'm not mistake, most, if not all, dealerships should price match. I know my dealership will the next time I get a car, or they will be losing my business!
