HELP!
Can anyone here supply me with information that Honda is aware that failure to secure the roof latch before dropping the top can result in a roof puncture.
Mine failed (parts fell out of it when I ran the roof back up) and flopped loose and punched a hole in my roof......
The service manager agreed that the latch failed but he and the Honda district rep said there were no rough or sharp edges to cut the roof fabric. So they won't cover that (did say they would replace the latch though). If you have had experience with this problem please send me particulars and dates.
TIA Jim

huh? do you mean by when you start to take top down, then you unlatch top than clicking it back in place whiles its not latched right? So you dont do this and just let it hang?
pics would be good to.

Sorry bout no pics will try to get some but after the quicky repair with super glue and
packing tape (quickly approaching T'Storms required that.) but it is an L shaped tear that is the width of the latch and about half it's length.....
Nope didn't let the latch flop loose I snapped it back up in place but when the roof jerked and made a popping noise and I ran the roof back forward the latch was flopping and would not lock in place anymore and broken plastic (scuse me ah space age polymer) pieces fell out of the latch body. What I am trying to "prove" is that it is known that if the latch is not locked in place for whatever reason it will damage the roof. The Honda rep and service manager say it just isn't possible for it to happen but have no explaination for why the tear is where it is and obviously "fits" the latch.

still confused sorry
So you did latch it back but why the roof jerk and made a pop noise? If you latched it back and pressed button there is no pssibility of it breaking while the top is goigndown....

I've read through this thread a couple times, but I'm still confused.
It is my understanding that people are unlocking the latch, releasing the latch, and the relocking the latch (although unhooked) before lowering the top. Is this correct?
How is it that the latches are breaking and puncturing the roof?

I had the drivers side latch do that to me. It popped when I was putting the roof back and then wouldn't let the top go down all the way. Didn't however put a hole in the top but was probably trying to...
The plastic undermeath that the latch latches too split down the middle so I was able to push it together and still get the latch clamp over top of it. Sounds like yours had more of a catostrophic failure.
Honda replaced the latch piece that broke under warranty...
