Default HELP BRAKE CHANGE GONE WRONG

I am pissed. Changing the brakes on the f'ing s2000 is supposed to be easy until you come across bolts that hurcules himself would not be able to get off. After messing with the bolts in the back for God knows how long and using bolt loosening spray I finally moved onto the phillips screws on the front of the rotor. Got one off and stripped the face on the other one and now I can not get one off at all. Anyone know any good kits to get off the stripped screw. I am going to have a heart attack out of anger right now.

Are you talking about the screws that hold on the rotor? If so, you can try 2 things next time. First is to get the correct size Phillips screw driver and get a crescent wrench. Put the screw driver in and attach the crescent wrench to the end and use the wrench as torque to turn the screwdriver. Make sure that the screwdriver is in the screw tight, otherwise you'll just strip it. Second thing is to get a Phillips bit, a socket that fits the hexagon side of the bit, and a socket. Put them all together to get the torque again.

For bolts, I always use a breaker bar. Just make sure you're turning the right way before you go at it.

For rotor retaining screws, it's best to just use a cobalt drill bit. They will melt like butter and you can get new screws from the dealer cheap. It's not worth all the trouble of trying to use an oversized bit, etc... when you can just drill through them in less than a minute.

Are you replacing the rotors? Or just getting them resurfaced? The rotor screws might not have ever been removed and still have locktight from the factory + rust on the bottom of the screw(behind the hub)!

The philips screws hold the rotor on. You should use an impact tool to loosen them. Basically you hit the end of the tool with a hammer and it turns the bit for you. Available at Home Depot and a must have........but you shouldn't be messing with these unless you are changing the rotors.

Are you talking about rotors or pads?

Good luck.

Yep.. i bought a impact driver for the rotors.. using jus a screwdriver would definitely strip the screws.

Put bolts in the threaded holes on the rotor face. Tighten them down to lossen the rotors NOT TOO MUCH OR THE HOLES WILL SPLIT. The rotors will "pop" -you can feel it in the handle of the socket. (much like putting the lug nuts loosely on a wheel that will not come loose when the car is on the jack and lowering the car to free the wheel from the rotor face). Then remove the bolts and the screws will come out without any hassle.
edit for spelling
