Default Help! Broken cupholder!

My cupholder broke. Occasionally, when I drive, my elbow rests on the back of the cupholder lid and has snapped back a few times without pushing down on it (like how you normally open it). There must be a catch or something that holds it up when you close it. Well, today it popped up when my elblow was resting on it and I heard a snap. Now it won't stay down no matter what.

Has this happend to anyone else on here? Before I rip it apart, I need to know what may have happened.

Wow... you must be shorter than I am! I'm 5' tall and my elbow rests on the middle console while I drive, without touching the cup holder at all. If you aren't able to find someone who knows, I would suggest finding someone who has the Helm manual (or better yet, buy it) to determine what piece may have broken. Good luck!

I replaced my cupholder when I was using alcohol on my shifter frame.(to get that shiny look) and somehow I managed to get alcohol on top of the cupholder, which then discolored it. I bought a new one from Honda parts I think it was like $50. Still have the old one somewhere.

Actually, I'm 5'10. I guess it's just the way I bend my elbow sometimes.

Anyone have the manual and know how to fix this, or does the whole cupholder itself need replaced. I want to try and pull it out to see what broke inside....

Jason

There is a locking hinge on one side of the cup holder if my memory serves me correctly. You might be able to fix it, but I think it is a sealed type of hinge. I found it for 23.xx on the net, and you might just want to replace it. PM HardTopGuy for a price.

Thanks!!! You guys are great!

If I can't fix it, I bet my dealer will replace it under warranty.

I went to my dealer today and the ordered the new part under warranty. The guy that came out had no clue how the new one goes in. When the part comes in on Friday, I want to know how it goes in before I let them touch it.

It looks to me from the above pic, that you have to pop off the outer black plastic around console and under that will be two screws that hold the cupholder in place.

Is this how you get it out?

yeah the whole center console comes out.
Remove shift knob first and then whole center console.
2 screws holding the cup holder from the bottom.

Jason, they do anything for you over there. Next thing you know, they are going to tear down the dealership building and remodel it to just for you
