Default Help with buying an AP2 s2000

Hello.

I am new to the s2ki forum.

Within this week, I am planning to purchase an AP2 s2000.

I have heard that the 04-05 AP2 have a much better throttle response due to the 06+ AP2 having a DBW.

Is this true? And will the DBW ruin the pure driving experience of the s2000?

The DBW in an S2000 isn't really noticeable. It's nothing like that of the ~06 Civics for example. I don't notice any issues with mine at all, and in fact the 06+ have the reprogrammable ECU going for them. This is why most people would say get an 06+ if you can afford it.

No it is absolutely not true. I have owned an 04 and an 06 and there is no noticeable difference other than cruise works more smoothly on dbw.

I prefer 06-07 (they are the same) over 04-05 since they have dbw, traction control (yes you can turn it off but its nice to have), a slightly revised wheel design and they came standard with headrest speakers. The seats are also slightly different but feel roughly the same (there is no hole in the headrest any more).

08-09 have the five spoke wheels which I dont care for personally.

Best of luck to you on your purchase, especially if you intend to buy within a week and havent found it yet...it took me a few months to find my 06 RYP.

It's stability control, not traction. But like the others said, the DBW isn't really noticeable. Since you're in socal you should have no issue finding models of each to test drive just to see there isn't much of a difference. Just hold out for your fav color combo, and don't assume that colors look the same in person as they do in pictures.

Great to hear that the DBW doesn't affect the s2000.

I've been stressing so much over many months specifically trying to find a 04-05 GPW s2000.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Expect to pay a premium for that color right now. It's currently the most wanted color by a lot of potential and current owners. If you can find a decently priced one w/ a OEM hardtop I'd jump on it. In case you didn't know the OEM hardtops are no longer in production, a fair condition one will sell over 2k easily and may require painting to match. It's definitely a nice thing to have, even if it just sits in the garage.

Not to steal the topic, but I keep reading that about GPW. What would a good deal be on one then? Does 16k for a clean condition 05 GPW w/ 70k sound right?

+1 for no difference with the throttle response. I had an '02 for about 3 years and have now had an '06 for about a year and a half. I didn't notice any change in the throttle.

If theres really is a premium for GPW, that would mean that any bargain on a used S2000 would be found in the other colors. That would be my stratagy and I also would be willing to accept and consider all colors. But, your call
