Default HELP!! Can't get the top (boot) cover off!!!

It was beautiful this weekend in the sf bay area, and i thought i'd play around with the plastic cover provided by honda to cover the convertible top. got it on fine, but needed to pull and stretch to get last button snapped down behind the driver's seat.

this morning i tried to take it off and the snap bhind the passenger seat won't release... i tried pulling, wedging, etc. but no luck. can i unscrew the male side of the snap, there is a hex nut pattern on it??? then i can at least work on the getting the snap off with the cover off the car.

I don't want to take the chance of breaking anything. has anybody had this problem with the top cover????

Try pushing the boot cover towards the interior where it is clipped and pulling on the button at the same time.

If you try pulling on the boot and releasing, it will be much more difficult. Pushing on the area around the clip releases the pressure on the button making easier to remove.

I might add that when I was struggling with mine, I found that a piece of cardboard inserted between the snap that I had gotten loose prevented it from snapping itself back as I worked on the one next door. That happened a couple of times before I inserted the cardboard.

As you try Doug's suggestion, also try twisting the cap...that helps on mine significantly.

If all else fails, you might try a pair of plyers on the snap. That worked for me in the past.

I just got the 02 on saturday but i figured out how to take off the boot pretty quick. The two straps on the side, you just have to turn the thingy and it will come loose. For the ones on the back, put your arm behind the boot and pull on the clip, that will release it making it come off very easily.

Haha... reminds me of the first time I couldn't get mine off.. I just ripped the damn thing off. This was after several attempts, I got so fed up I was like screw it. Well, one of the buttons fell off the cover. The dealer replaced it with another cover for free.

hey you guys thanks for all the help. got the boot cover off this morning. actually, it was easier than i thought.

the snap that was stuck was the one behind the passenger's seat, NOT the snap with the elastic band that fastens along the side of the door. I was having a devil of a time pulling, prying the cover back to no avail.

This morning I reached under the cover to the rear side of the snap and found a little pull (just like on the side fasteners) which when pulled releases the snap. Duhhh! I didn't feel it there yesterday.

Given that there have been problems experienced by others, I'm wondering if this is yet another "hidden" improvement made by Honda for MY02... release pulls on all four fasteners????

Anyway, top is now free to be raised, just in time for forecasted rain over the next couple of days.

Thanks again to all for your thoughts and help.
