Smile Help! Car is dead, real rough idle!

Well my car is dead, lemme run down what happend.

it's a 02' with 109k miles, intake, test pipe, comptech ESM and 255 fuel pump.

I'm cruising at 70 mph, and the Check Engine Light flashes, I feel the car loose power then it dies.

On the shoulder, i try to start it but it only cranks and never fires. The CEL is not on so i try to pull the code with a obd 2 reader. No codes come back. I check the vacuum lines, battery and fuel pump. So i know i have fuel. Check the fuses and the 15 amp fuse Ignition or Ignitor is blown. (3rd from the bottom left hand side)

Replace the fuse, and the car starts with a REAL REAL bad idle, like it on 2 cylindars or something and i kill it immeditally and have the car towed home.

Ok, what do i do now? Check coil packs? Ignitor? Crank sensor? Or do i need to tow it to honda now....

Also what could cause the fuse to pop?

I had the same problem besides my check engine light didnt turn on. How much fuel do you have? I had 2 bars left and my gas light was on. I put 5 gallons in it and it fired right back up.

Coils and Ignitor would be the next place to check.
Specifically look to see if any of the wires have rubbed on something or if anything touching a ground.

A Digital Multimeter will really be useful to narrow down where the problem is coming from.
Probably need a service manual so you can look up what the proper voltage readings are.

I actually havn't done a lot of research on the S's coil pack system, but many systems use 2 ignitors and 4 coils. If 1 ignitor goes then you would lose 2 cylinders.

I have seen 4 cylinders idle on 3 cylinders rough, but never on 2

I have half a tank. Wish it was something simple as that.

Then you may have dropped a valve. Check your compression. Once weakened by an over-rev, the retainers can develop cracks over time and let go even years after the over-rev happened.

What you are describing sounds very similar to a dropped valve.

great, dropped valve. Pretty much a new head and short block i'm guessing.

geez....well i'll find out after the compression check. Stay tuned for upcoming fire sale!!!
