Default Help! Heard a rattle when I opened my trunk

HI, this morning when I arrived at work, I opened my trunk to get my lunch. I heard what sounded like a large screw rattling to the bottom of the inside of my trunk lid. When I closed my trunk, the lid still rattled. What is this? Has this happened to anyone else?

Look inside the trunk lid where the 3rd brake light is and check to see if all of the nuts are still there. Maybe one of them worked itself loose.

It is probably the trunk springs hitting each other or the car.

Thanks. Yes, one of the nuts worked loose and fell inside the lid. Now how do I get it out?

It'll probably fall out by itself. But you could put a magnet there to "catch" it as it rattles past. Or fish around with a magnetic pick up.

You could try a magnetic pickup wand and snake it through the trunk lid openings.

What I had to do to get a loose nut out was take off the trunk lid and shake it loose.

Pretty easy to do: Undo the two wire connectors and the wire harness clip, and remove the 4 bolts that connect the lid to the hinges. Beware of scratching the forward corners of the trunk lid; wrap some paper towels around them. Then shake that nut out and reinstall. Probably a good idea to retighten the other nuts too.

I hate when rattlesnakes get in the car in Texas!
