Default HELP!!! I have a puzzler for you

I need some serious help. I purchased a 2002 Suburban in nov. last year. During the first month, it died several times while turning left. I do not know the fuel level in the tank at that time.

first visit to the dealer. according to them, all is fixed on this visit.

In early jan., the truck sat in my carport with the starter spinning but the truck not cranking. The dealer came out and flatbedded it to the dealership. This time, we were informed it needed the NEW, REdesigned fuel pump. It took about a week to come in.

A few weeks later, it does it again. (about 1/8 tank of fuel). Once again, it is flatbedded to dealer. When it gets off the truck, it cranks up. THIS time, we are informed that we have "BAD" gas and the fuel filter is stopped up and there is a "rust like silt" in the gas tank. They removed and steamed out the tank several times. We ask where they suggest to buy gas, and my wife fills it up with Shell. He also suggested we use an injector cleaner, which we did.

Now, ten days and about 350 miles later (still same tank of gas) it does it again. Fuel level is 1/8 tank. I have a mechanic pull the filter. No water/trash noted. I get 5 gallons of gas and NOW the truck cranks. Once again, the dealer comes to get it. Guess what? BAD GAS again. Seems the tank is once again full of silt. The tank has silt, but the filter is clean???

He has no explanation as to why this seems to happen with low fuel.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Also, does anyone know of a suburban bulletin board like this site?

Thanks

sounds like you got a lemon. create a timeline of all the problems you have experienced, with documentation to support the repairs, contact the proper bureaucracy and inform the dealer. you may have to hire a lawyer in order to receive proper compensation. the problems you describe are bad even for an american car.

I once had a similar situation in an old Mustang. Out of the blue, the car would just quit. The car would start back up & run for a while, but then it would just die again. Well, after going through a bunch of suspect components (like your dealer is apparently doing), it turned out to be just a faulty fuel filter.

Apparently in this particular filter design, a small plate worked its way loose & would get sucked up against the outlet orifice. Once the pressure backed off, the plate would drop back & allow fuel to flow again.

Not sure if this is possible in your case, but you might want to make sure something like this (or something similarly simple) is not happening with your truck.

Good luck.

My wife's boss has a 00 Tahoe & has had enough problems that he's going through the lemon law process. Turned the wife off of nagging me for a Yukon, finally . Give the POS back to GM & buy a Toyota Sequoia.

Looked and did not see any TSB's for your problem on the Suburban. I don't know if the Suburban has a locking cover on the gas filler but, is there any chance that someone, like little kids, could be putting dirt in your tank? You might want to try a locking gas cap

thanks for all the info.
got it back this afternoon, doesn't seem to be running well now. this is our third suburban, only one we've ever had problems with. the dealer said it was "bad gas" and didn't try to answer the question of why it would crank with 1/4 tank, but not 1/8 tank.

gonna try another dealer. there is no way it is the gas.

why can't all cars be as trouble free as the s2k???????
