Default HELP WITH KONI INSTALL

Im done with everything and I started to torque everything down. I have run into a problem, while trying to torque down the bolts at the top of the koni that sit on the shaft, I have noticed I cant do it, the shaft spins with the torque.

For some reason I have a feeling this is damaging the shock, is this correct.

Also how do you hold the shaft to torque down the bolts at top. HELP!!!

I haven't done the suspension on the s2k before, but if it's the same as other honda's and if you're referring to the bolt on top of the top hat. You're supposed to use an allen wrench to hold the center and then an open ended wrench to tighten it. Is that the bolt you're talking about?

Or you could look for the install guide in the "under the hood" section of the forum and look at their instructions. Im sure there are some for installing suspension...

Yeah, Convict is right. Make sure you use Metric tools as to not strip and damage the bolt/allen key hole.

Im refering to the two nuts that sit on the shaft that secure the entire shock. Not the ones on the top hat. There is no hole to put an allen key that i can see.

I basically had to do it without using my torque wrench, i there is a small notch where to hold the shaft with a crescent wrench and then use a wrench to tighten the two nuts. I just found a thread saying this same exact thing, to use a box end wrench to hold the shaft and then tighten the bolts.

I used that same write up to install the shocks, but there is no mention on how to install the two nuts at the top of the shaft.

Now the big question, did i damage the shock, it must of spun the shaft like 5 times before I noticed it was spinning. Please tell me I did not just ruin my brand new KONI shocks!!!

Well I think the shock blew. I took the car for a quick drive, everything was fine, then i hit a small dip in the road, heard a loud clunking noice from the front right corner. Got home and now the front right corner is slammed no gap whatsoever, actually the wheel is tucked under the fender. The left front wheel has about one finger gap, and both where set to the same height.

Great. So how do i check to verify the shock blew, i dont see anything physically wrong except the wheel is sitting so low. No oil seepage that I can tell. This sucks.

I just finished taking the shock off the car. It seems that at full firmness, the shock binds up. That explains why the right front dropped to the floor, at full compression, the shock would not rebound.

Is this a symptom of a blown shock?

It also seems the shock now if set to a less firm setting, is very easy to push in by hand. I cant confirm this until I take the other side out.

So any suspension experts have any insight on this?

send it back in for a warranty

if you spun it a bunch of times you might have blown it
but if there is no seepage it should be good
