Default Help me!

yesterday, my oil indicator came on and blinked for like 5 seconds or something
so i checked my dip stick and the oil level was like almost gone!
so i let my car cool down completely. and check the dip stick again and it was almost empty again.
car runs fine
but i went and bought a quart of mobil 1 and put about 3/4 of it in today. and the oil level still hasnt changed. the oil is barely at the tip of the stick..

anybody konw what's happening to my car??

thnx

For the oil light to flicker like that, you are down to about 2 qts left in the engine. 3/4 of a qt. did nothing. You need to put in another 2 to 3 qts. Add it 1 qt at a time till you see it on the dipstick and continue to add till it reaches the full mark.

And you have not checked the oil at all in this whole time? This is FOOL HEARTY at best. You are supposed to check the oil in this car at EVERY gas fill.

oh thnx for the info.

could there be damages to my engine?

the whole time the oil pressure indicator never came on.. so does that mean no serious damage was done to the engine?

and what could possibly have caused this oil loss??

Hard to say if damage was done without doing some tests. It depends on how you had been driving it when it was this low on oil and what the climate was like (really HOT?).

The indicator light is also known as an "IDIOT" light. It is not a reliable sign of how your engine is doing. That light will only come on if there is not enough oil to go through the oil pump to create a minimum amount of oil pressure. You can still have above threshold oil pressure with only a couple of qts of oil in the engine. This is NOT enough to adequately provide lubrication or cooling.

This amount of oil loss (3 qts over a 4100 miles interval) can be considered the high end of normal oil consumption for this car of your model year. This is why you are supposed to check the oil frequently and keep it topped up.
