Default Consequence of driving with low oil level

I kept checking the oil for awhile and it looked like there was no oil burning, so I stopped checking.

Then after about a month I checked again yesterday and ...

There was only about 1/4 inch oil from the end of the stick, below "L."

I added today. The oil light never came on and I never had any problem with the VTEC not switching.

Do I need to worry about anything?

As long as you didn't vtec you shouldn't have a problem. If you vtec'd then you are SOL. You should probably sell it to an unsuspecting fool. No, just kidding. Should be no problem. Just be sure to check it more often. I have 12,250 miles and my car needs to be topped off. I still use about a half quart every 2000 miles. When I was breaking the car in, I used as much as a quart every 1000 miles.

Thanx!

I think I need to go buy a funnel because I already made a mess trying to put oil in. The dipstick is a pain in the ass btw. Never had such a hard time reading the oil level before this car.

Cyberorth,

The dipstick is a PITA to read correctly. Just make sure you're on a level surface and read from the side that shows the lowest level. ALso, good idea to invest in a funnel. I spilled too. What happens is that the oil will run along the inside of the valve cover valley.

Utah s2k,
I am glad someone has a sense of humor.

What could be done to see if any damage was created? Leak-down test? Oil analisys? Dyno?

If you really are anal about the car (as I am) you could send a sample to Blackstone for analysis (www.blackstone-labs.com). Ryan has a pretty good baseline on Honda break in oil for this car. The first thing to go would be viscosity if the oil were really fried. He can also do a hard particle count (baseline for this car established on that too). Anyway once again my opionion is just swap it out and keep a better eye on it in the future....

P.S. Mention your a member of S2Ki and he'll give you a club price (about 18 bucks I think). Tell him Utah sent ya......
