The Honda S2000 is my absolute DREAM car. Not only is it going to be my dream car, but it will be the FIRST car I ever purchased (or leased??). I'm looking to get some guidance. I have read through ALL seven chapters at carbuyingtips.com and thing I"m ready to negotiate. Can I ask you people what you paid for your S2000? Since this will be my first car, I don't want to get ripped off. I want to be proud of what I paid for it. Some internet dealer gave me a quote of 37K. That was her first offer, so I'm sure it's high. I would like to know what target price I should look for while negotiating for the S2000. I hear it's VERY high in demand and low in supply, so I may have have to pay considerably more than MSRP. Is this true? Should I wait several months and wait until the demand settles and try to get a better price?

Any suggestions or tips in general on how to get my dream S2000 (and at a good price!) will greatly be appreciated!

Oh, one more thing. I'm a 25 yr old single male. I'm almost afraid to ask, but what type of insurance you think I'll have to pay for this bad boy?

Use priceline.com

The best way to buy a car - no haggling required. Just put in your price and they will find it for you. It costs $50 though...

Good Luck!!!

Don't know how the dealers are in OR, but here in NH, I bought mine at $500 below MSRP, and they still have three more to sell for this year, at my dealer. There are also several dealers around the Boston area selling at sticker. You DO NOT NEED TO PAY ABOVE STICKER! It is nothing but legal extortion to do so, and you will be the victim. No car is worth it. Not even the beloved S2K! Search around, and if you have to travel to pay MSRP, or below, do it. You'll feel a lot better about your purchase.

Here is a post that I wrote after too much caffeine one day. $37K is too high if you aren't in California. I am sure that you can get close to MSRP.

You sound like a nice guy -- remember, get the price you want or you go to the next dealership, period. Don't worry about the dealer feeling rejected.

I am in Phoenix. S2Ks are going for $33K here, so it would be cheaper to fly in, buy the car and drive it back than pay $37K.

Good luck and have a good time with the process,
Tanq

I paid $39 before tax, luxury tax, license, extended warranties, options, alarm and lojack.

I paid $1600 the first year for the S and my Civic combined. I have full coverage and was 26 at the time.

I would think that you could easily get it for MSRP. With a little skill and research, maybe for $1k under MSRP.

When I bought mine, MSRP was a good deal. Now, I don't think so.

you might try going thru an auto broker. for about $400 they can save you anywhere from $2000-4000 b/c they're well versed in getting the lowest price.

geico. $110/mo.
