Help me evaluate this S2K...
I've decided that it's time to get out of my current car, and into a real sports car. Right now I'm driving a supercharged Si. And while it's as fast as the S in a straight line, I really want to convert over to a stock RWD convertible. The S2K is the obvious choice.
I don't want to spend the $ on a new one, so I've been looking at this local '00 S2K. It's a one owner car, female driven, 22k miles, silver on black, garage kept. It appears to be in good condition. The body looked mint. The interior in good shape too. The top release latches were worn to bare metal. There were some scratches on the shift knob from her rings. The driver's seat was sqeaking pretty bad from behind with me driving. She said that never happened before. I don't know if that's from all of the Armor All she had freshly applied. Other than those minor complaints, it looks great.
Mechanically, it didn't feel quite as good as a brand new S I drove at the dealership the other day. I know Honda did some tweaking on the tranny and suspension on the new models. The shifter didn't feel quite as crisp, and the clutch felt like it had a longer, and slightly stiffer stroke. Also, her tranny was doing that nasty vibration problem when coasting down in 3rd or 2nd gears @ 3k - 4k rpms. Should this problem concern me? I know there's a TSB out there for it, but I've heard mixed results. If the car is going to do that forever, I may pass on it. The car has new rear tires, BFG Comp T/A KDW's which are about $50 less per tire than the S02's that should be there. The rear window looked clear without any fogging.
She's asking $26,000 for it. She said she'd come down to $25,800 for me...
. Edmunds.com lists this car right at $24k, and that seems more reasonable to me than $26k. If anyone would be so kind as to give me their thoughts on this car, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

This car would still have 11 months of it's warrantee left. Plenty of time for me to get the clutch fixed. I wouldn't pay $26k either. I was thinking $24k. I'm pretty sure that the car hasn't been beaten on at all too. When I was test driving it with her, I'm getting on the highway doing like 65 in 5th gear maybe 4000 rpms... she says to me, "I would shift into 6th now." I bit my tongue and just shifted to 6th. I'm still yet to get an S2K onto the big cam...

Of course, my car doesn't spend much time going in straight lines either.
I would consider the BFG tires a drawback if you're at all interested in the cornering abilities of the S2000. Still, if you can get the car for $24K and it's been babied and the rear window is still clear, it sounds like a good deal.

To she have all those receipts?
I agree with bOmbrman. Check her receipts of service, also the tires are irrelevant.
If you were trading in a vehicle, they aren't going to deduct due to worn tires.
I think you would be okay @ 24k or less if she'll go for it!
good luck.
