I am an Australian living in Melbourne Florida and am looking to give my S2000 (2000 Black on Black) a name and personality. I came up with a list of Australian Aboriginal names that are intereting and I am looking for feedback. let me know what your vote is!!

Translation Name
1 boomerang - barran
2 wild dog - marayin
3 spear - bilaarr
4 black snake - nhurraay
5 lightning - muri
6 crooked - warawara
7 fast - barraay
8 fire - wii
9 angry, wild - yiili
10 Trouble - menyin
11 Cyclone - jigalan
12 morning star - milijun
13 Salt Water Croc - jarnin
14 Scorpion - namorran
15 Stormbird - jowok
maybe a compound name would suit?
16 wild lightning - yiili muri
17 fast black snake - barraay nhurraay
18 angry wild dog - yiili marayin
19 crooked spear - warawara bilaarr

Cheers

Cyclone seems to fit well given the nature of the S2000's spin "capabilities". And Jigalan doesn't sound bad either. So a "J" pronounced like a "Y" as in "you" or a "J" as in "jump"?

I like Jigalan (in a good way.)

Could we post this list as an FAQ of Aussieisms?

I'm also an Aussie/American (dual citizen) and went through this process when trying to name my kids I tried all the Aussie names, but they just sounded too weird

I think maybe you should try some good ole Aussie slang. How 'bout:

beaut - beautiful (Aussies even describe food as beautiful)
brumby - wild horse
cobber - friend
ripper - real good
abbo - since it's black ??

and if you're pissed of at your car for some reason, you can call it a

mongrel

Thanks for the input to date. I will be deciding on Friday 21 Dec.

My two choices are Stormbird and Cyclone so far.

Still welcome other votes.

Cheers
