Default HELP!!!!!!!!! My Inspection Is This Month!!

hey everyone,

Ive owned four cars in my lifetime and have never had gotten inspection done to them cuz i always avoided it. Either my car was stolen before inspection or i would end up trading it in before inspection. But since I love my S so much and have had it for a year and 2 months, the inspection is due this month!! The question is, will i pass?? What do I need to do? I have a JIC full titanium cattback exhaust, Toda header, Injen CAI, amuse lip, amuse hood, and 20% tint. I probably wont pass for the tint, what about the other things? Please help! cuz I heard if i just go to the inspection station and take my chances hoping i will pass, and if i fail, no one else would want to do it then. thanks

Dee

You can only tint your rear window on the S2000 in NJ. According to the law anyway.

Back Side (car): Any %
Back Side (mpv): Any %
Rear W/S (car): Any %
Rear W/S (mpv): Any %

Why? If you fail, what happens?

Interesting. Living in California all I have to put up with are the CARB approvals for anything you put on the car.

What do they inspect for? It's a safety inspection, right? Sometimes I'd wish they would do that here in SoCal, it would get at least 20% of the cars off the road.

Dude, don't sweat it. If you don't pass they'll give you a rejection sticker you can ride with for like 15 days or something and then you just need to come back with whatever they tell you needs to be fixed. Other then emittions, they just check your headlights, wipers, horn, etc. You might be told to take off the tint, but it just kind of depends on who inspects it. Like I said, worst case is they tell you something needs to be done and you take it back

That's kind of where I was going but I didn't know how it worked there. I don't have to worry about stuff like that.

The only thing on your list that could cause you a problem is your header and tint. The catback is legal, they don't care about body kits, the injen CAI is CARB approved (therefore legal).

Toda doesn't list their headers as CARB approved. Therefore in NJ they are illegal. As long as your cat is in place and you pass emissions you may get away with it. Then again they can fail your car if its too loud (welcome to NJ). But they do an underbody check here and if some overly bright (not to many of those really) inspector notices they aren't factory they'll probably fail you on the spot.

It is 100% illegal in the state of NJ to have any tint on the front drivers or passengers windows, and you can only have tint on the top 3 inches of your front window. Anything lower than that is illegal and you will fail inspection. You can paint your rear window black for all they care as long as you have side view mirrors.

If you can find one go to a private inspection place. They aren't nearly as tough to get through as the state ones. They only care about you passing emissions and that you got a cat installed. As long as you meet those criteria most don't care. Unfortunately they are fewr and far between since they changed the test regs and most shops wouldn't spend the money on the new equipment that NJ requires.

There is one test you're really going to hate. I nearly beat some guy when they did it to my car. They put your front tires on a machine and vibrate the hell out of it. I mean they REALLY slam the crap out of your front suspension for about 20 seconds. Imagine running over 3 inch high strips of concrete at about 60 mph for a quarter mile and you get the idea. I could hear it slamming into the bump stops.

Here's a basic summary of what they'll do.
- check lights, signals, wipers, horn, and hazard lights.
- Emissions, this is done by putting your car on rollers and running the engine up to between 20-40mph. They skipped the roller on my car for some reason, though they checked others in front of me.
- Undercarriage check of the cat and anything else they can see.
- They will put an odbII (did I get that right?) and check to make sure your emissions are running correctly (any car after 1996). They do this incase you got creative and disabled your check engine light or sensors. If you didn't know its on the passenger side. The computers at the NJ DMV didn't have it listed and the guys couldn't figure out where it was until they asked me.
- They will check your brakes, and emergency brake. Usually buy tapping the gas and then hitting the brake to see how long it takes to stop.
- Then they do that test I mentioned above to check your front alignment and suspension.

Then your good for another 2 years.
