Help needed with stats vs. MIATA
OK, a friend of mine has a Miata. After driving my S2000, she realized that the cars are in two very different classes. However, she has a Miata buff friend, who says she just needs a supercharger and some suspension tuning and she is set to go.
What performance parts does the s2000 come with that set it apart from the Miata (price also) ??
For example, I'm sure a Miata doesn't come with a limited slip diff .. how much to add one to it??
Thanks for any help ...

I was at a Miata Dyno Day. Most of the turbo Miatas were pushing around 130-150 HP at the wheels. The cars come out with about 90 HP at the wheels stock, with a 7+ second 0-60. These cars are no match in a straight line for us. The most suped up street Miata at the event put out 230 HP at the wheels, but it had a lot of work in it. There was a non-street car that was pushing 350 HP at the wheels and was a 10 second 1/4 mile car...but it was strictly a race car.
Now take one of those slow Miatas to the autocross, and with the right driver they can do very very well. At the same time, an inexperienced Turbo Miata driver at the autocross was close to 10 seconds slower than my car back when I was stock.
From what I remember seeing in magazines, a supercharger will drop from 0.5 to 1 second off of the Miata's 0-60...nothing to get excited about. If you reallly want I can dig up the magazines and see the dynos/times of the miatas, they've had a few in Sport Compact Car the past year.

Well, I just got done w/a series of NA mods on my GF's Miata (I/H/E) and suspension tweaks (braces). The car appears to have picked up 10-12 hp (152-154) and is just a hair slower than my S2K in the lower gears pre-VTEC. If you SC'ed a Miata w/a plain jane non-intercooled JR kit (~5lbs boost) you should be in the 180-190 hp range. But you would be running w/out an IC (hot days/prolonged running would suffer) and many safety nets (new ECU, adjustable FPR, etc).
Of course those other things can be bought and you can go nuts w/FI on a Miata and run in the 11's (a 1.6 no less) http://www.greddyturbofaqs.com/minimonster.htm and make 300+ hp. But at that stage most would argue that you have squashed all the other positive attributes of a Miata (reliability, benign user friendly nature, etc).
A Miata is a great car, inexpensive to own/operate/mod and it can be made faster than a S2000 (it will take more than a $4K SC though). However, you would have to go nuts on chassis mods to remove the cowl shake and flex inherent in its design. It would be very hard to make the Miata's chassis match the rigidity and resulting dynamic precision of the S2K. You could make the car get around the track as quick for less but there are other measures of handling.
Bottom line Miata+SC/Turbo/etc != S2000. But it doesn't have to, it's a great car in its own regard.

Yeah, white rocket the V8's another option
But notice how it's now a tube frame car (at least up front) and in my opinion no longer a Miata:

P.S. I'm not picking at your post white rocket, it just presented me w/an opportunity to elaborate
