I have finally done it. BUT, I cannot figure out what wire to use for the remote turn on to the amp. I am keeping the stock head unit for now and using an in-line converter. Does anyone know if our Stock Head Unit has a wire for this? Thanks!

Saliv8:

The head unit does not have a trigger wire. The yellow/green which is for the antenna amplifier would work except that it is only on when the radio is on. So... either you setup your amp to always be on when the car is on, or you get one of those adapters that turns on powe when it senses speaker level input.

I opted for just switching it off of the accessory circuit, and have it on whenever the car is on... even if the head-unit is off. This has worked beautifully for me - no noise or static when the Head-Unit is off, and no pops when the car is started or the HU is turned on.

The wire I used to do this was the blue/white (i think) that runs just behind the back of the passengers seat, right under the panel with the vent in it. Once you take this panel off, you will find a bit of plastic conduit running crosswise. Inside it is the wire I'm talking about. It powers the power socket in the armrest. Just tap in and connect your amp's trigger wire, and you're set.

Good luck.

Dan

The saga continues. Now my radio will not turn on. I know it is getting power because the theft light is flashing. WTF??? All I did up near the head unit was wire in the inline converter. And the radio was working after that. Anyone know how to reset the radio? I still cannot find a wire to use for remote turn on. PLEASE HELP!

Did you interupt power to the radio? Do you need to enter the radio code?

I also had to have my amp wired to an ignition switched (vs radio/cd switched) power source. I do get a slight amount of noise when the radio is off, most noticable when the radio is off and the mute button is depressed!

The radio is getting power - the little red light is blinking and the cd mechanism spins when I plug in the harness. I can't figure this one out...please help someone.

Do this
Find you radio code. If you cant your dealer will have it.
Disconnect the batery completely. Then reconnect it.
put in your code and see if it works.
If it doesn't repost what you all did, including what wires went where.
And you have to get a seperate wire to the ignition for the amp turn on. You could put in a switch to turn it off. But why the stereo is usually on all the time anyways.
Its always good practice to run an extra thin wire along with the rca cables for a noise ground if one appears. Not always needed, but since your putting in wires do it just in case.
Hope you used a good thick power cable to the battery plus a heafty fuse.

I found the culprit! The ACC fuse was blown! When I replaced the fuse, I hooked in the remote turn on and now have sound. I also have zero engine noise! I will post some pics when I have time.
Thanks for the help everyone!
