Default Help !!! Speeding Ticket

Hey everybody, I need some advice. I was driving from SOuth Florida to New York when I was pulled over in Virginia by a State Trooper. He said he got me on radar going 87 in a 65 zone. I do know I may have been speeding but not by that much. What advice do you all have. Because I was 20+ I believe it also becomes wreckless driving. Is there a way to fight the ticket say a ticketbuster lawyer or do I just swallow the fine and points. Any advice would be useful. Many Thanks

Do you plan on driving/flying back to VA to appear in court and/or magistrates office? If not, swallowing the points may be your only choice...

I personally would get a lawyer... VA is very hard on tickets and it wouldnt suprise me if they increased your speed. I recently got a 70 in 55 which isnt bad till you find out I am 16 and totaled an s2000. The DA was going to take my lic, but my lawyer got me to keep my lic and it reduced to 54 in 45 which is 0 insurance points and 2 lic. points. So I lucked up. I would say def. get a good lawyer. It is a good investment and is much cheaper than the insurance increase. Also, see if the county in question has prayer for judgement. IF they do, the ticket would be dropped, unless you got another ticket within 3 yrs. In addition, so counties will allow you to take driver improvement courses and reduce/drop your ticket if you do. A lawyer from the county in question would offer the best advice to you, however.

Thanks, Logan.

Let me tell you about my experience that I just had. I have not had a ticket in over 9 years until last august. I was driving a viper on my way to work and It just happened to be the week of the woodward dream cruise. I see a police car going the other direction all of a sudden he makes a u-turn and gets behind me. I saw him the whole time and was not speeding at all. Once he was behind me I was even on better behavior. He ends up pulling me over, comes up to the car first thing he says "Do you have a $100 bucks on you" I said what? He then replies "I am going to arrest you for reckless driving." I said that I did not know what he was talking about and he proceeded to tell me that someone had reported a viper driving recklessly that morning. To make a very long story short the police officer gives me a ticket for careless driving vs reckless driving. He then says to me "What do you expect driving a car like that during the week of the dream cruise." I have several attorneys in my family so I did not have to pay for one, but if I did I would not have fought the ticket. The reason is and I learned this from my day in court. The judge does not have to find you guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. No, the judges only job in a matter of a traffic offense is to determine who sounds more credible. Now I have a great respect for most police officers, but the one that got me lied through his teeth on the stand during my hearing , and because he testifies in court all the time the judge found his story to be more credible. He testified that he had me on radar at 82mph in a 50, and that I was weaving in and out of traffic which was all BS. The funny thing was is the cop had a video of all of this but it was erased before the the court date and when my lawyer brought that point up to the judge she said it was unreasonable for the police dept to keep the video for a traffic infraction. So my point is this, if you have to go all the way back to VA to fight this ticket I think its a waste of your time, but that is just my opinion. Also on a side note MI is known to be a hard line state on traffic tickets.

You're lucky he didn't write you for 90. They've been known to give out jail time for that in VA.
