Default HELP! SRS light stays ON after steering wheel install

I am posting this problem of mine in a new thread to attract more attention and hopefully responses/suggestions:

I installed my yellow/black steering wheel from Rick's yesterday. Great product and final install looks very sharp.

HOWEVER,

I am having this nagging problem now, as when I start the car the SRS light stays ON:

I have checked many things:

1. Final connection of airbag plugs (under the left cover) is SECURE

2. Have pulled out and reinserted several fuses - but SRS light stays on after car is started.

3. I am very sure that cable reel was properly positioned (2.25 turns from extreme right most position with arrow pointing straight up) when I seated the new wheel.

I am scared of driving the car for fear of airbag deployment. Anybody have any suggestions/recommendations.

PLEASE HELP!! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Does your horn work? If it does not, then there is a good chance that the cable reel was misaligned when you installed it. You also may have induced a DTC when you disconnected/reconnected the SRS. Can you zero out the DTC memory, and then see if the light comes back on? If you don't have access to one, you really need to see pages 23-54 of the Helm Manual. This has much detail re troubleshooting the SRS Indicator Light circuit.

OK I just pulled off the steering wheel and REINSTALLED the whole thing.

I was VERY careful with alignment of the reel.

THe horn is working.

SRS light still stays on AND when I drive the car, the wheel is not aligned straight meaning that I have to keep it turned about 10 degrees to the right to get the car to go straight.

SO two problems now:

1. SRS light stays on

2. Wheel needs to be kept 10degrees to the right to make car go straight. I was VERY careful with the install and I tried my best to keep the arrow on the reel pointed straight up, I really dont know if I can do a better job than what I have already done.

As far as erasing DTC memory goes, I have no idea how to erase this. I dont have the Helms manual. If someone has it and has access to a fax machine, I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could fax me the relevant pages 23-54 I believe.

Thanks - any help to get me through these problems is greatly appreciated

After the airbag is removed and reinstalled, the SRS systems has to be "reset" with a two-contact resistor plug that you can buy from your dealer/have them use theirs for you...

Moneeb,

I've been following this thread helplessly, since I didn't know what to advise you. Sometimes it is better to get the dealer to do the more complicated things. I had mine put the wheel on my car. When you add up the value of your time and all the hassle, sometimes do-it-yourself proves very costly.

I am not familiar with our Honda's ECU, but most other brands I have worked with can be reset completely by taking the battery connector off for a couple of minutes.

Will that help? Or is there a memory function which stays intact even when the power is taken off (which is rather uncommon, really!)

Let us know how things work out!!

SRS is a key safety item and I believe can only be cleared with the appropriate scan tool.........

Well took the car to the dealer - will take two hours and $140

They will pull the wheel and reinstall it to make sure the alignment is right. Also they will reset the SRS light.
